Praia de Pipa:
We arrived that evening and found a great hostel with a hammock provided for each room! Before lazing in the hammock gazing up at the stars we went for a walkabout the 1 road town...so I guess that makes it a walkalong instead. Anyway Pipa was a hippy, hippier and happening place - basically awash with tie dye hippies! Almost everyone had dreadlocks and was selling hand crafted beaded jewelry, ironically front of the designer shops. (who do they sell to?)
The next morning we woke up early and made our way down to the beach by 6am in order to make use of the low tides. We wanted to make our way along the main beach and around the point to other bays. The beach has high reddish and orangey cliffs which plunge down into a little stretch of sand before you hit the water, but at high tide the water levels rise enough to reach the cliffs at each bay point so you'd be hot footing it over rocks while being hit by waves from the side. It can be done...
While the vistas were incredible at sunrise the most excitement was spotting dolphins in the surf really close to shore. We quickly got in and tried to make our way over to where they were playing. They stayed fairly close but kept a safe distance. *sigh*. After a few more bobs in the ocean we returned to our hostel for breakfast, one more quick dip at the main beach and then headed down south again.
