SO on the 3rd I left Cusco, which was kinda strange as it had kind of become a home for a while. I'd met so many nice people there, and made so many good friends, only fair they get a mention. Si, an Aussie guy from Darwin to which I will stay with when I get there. John, from Dunedin in NZ, which I shall also stay with on my travels round. German, from Buenos Aeries, again, who I can stay with. Allan, another dude from Argentina. Kieran, a guy from Dublin. Sarah, who is from Canterbury, as is phoebe. Basically, loads of really cool people, who I had warmed to very much, albeit a short stay, I still got to know them really well, and will miss them. Oh, and I forgot, the Slovenian girls, who were ace! Good thing is, is that a lot of them I will meet back up with for the carnival in Feb. So anyway, it’s now the 3rd, and im in a place called Puno, which is more famously known for its lake. The highest Navigable Lake in the world....Lake Titicaca. I came down on the train today with a girl called Nicola who I knew through Simon, the same train Michael Palin took when he did his around the world thingy. It took 10 hours, which in comparison to the trains in the US was nothing, although it was going at an average speed of about 25 miles an hour. Slow was definitely the way we went. Anyway, the journey took us through all this amazing scenery. Eventually we climbed to over 15,000ft, which was where we were to have a break for 30 mins. This place was in the middle of nowhere, and we still got pestered by people when we got off to buy ponchos, alpaca jumpers etc.... But eventually we arrived in Puno. The lake isn’t at its best at the moment, as it’s only just turned the rainy season, but still looked pretty good. Puno is very much, like Lima, in my opinion, a "pass through" town. The streets were really busy when we arrived, and again we were being pestered at the station to stay at various places. We eventually walked past the crowds and found our hostel. A nice little one on a backstreet called Hostal Europa. This place gave us a twin room with en-suite for 40 soles a night, so 6pounds a night. This is by any standard is pretty cheap, but not as cheap as they are going to be in Bolivia. I read today that one of the places to stay that looks over the Lake is a "splurge" at $6. So now as I write this, I have come to the end of my Peruvian Adventure, which has been amazing. I know I was a little dubious at first, but I have come to love the place. I have done so much, and met so many really cool people. The highlight for me was Def Machu and the Inca trail, but New Years Eve was amazing also. Then there was the rafting, and the ruins trip. Basically, I have had a wicked time in Peru, but its now time to move on. Bolivia here I come. I reckon about 3 weeks in Bolivia in total, before heading up to Salvador and traveling down the east coast of Brazil in time for the carnival in Rio by Feb 15th ish. Anyway, better go, as its bed time for me. Got to be up early for a half day tour of the famous floating islands, which if the weather is good should be really good. Ciao for now
