There wasn't much for us to see in Novi Plazar so we decided to head to Belgrade. We went to check-out, but reception was closed. We couldn't just leave as they held on to our passports. We thought we could see them on the shelf in reception, but couldn't reach them as it was all locked up. I decided to head to the restaurant to see if they knew anything. I ended up in the errie basement. Realizing the only weirdo down there was me, walking around saying in a ghostly voice 'hellooooo'.
I decided to head up one level any open the door. The Restaurant!!! Hanging around peoples tables and feeling everyone looking at me I was about to leave when the waiter came up to be. I jus said passports. He repeated it several time. I thought this guy hasn't got a clue what I'm going on about, but five minutes later he appeared with our passports. I could have kissed the little Serb.
Back on track we headed to the bus station. We decided to ask for directions from a hotel. The only problem was she gave up direction by saying, go left and the go right… Easy? Not when you leave and there are to main doors. Which one? We decided to go through the one we were facing. 10 minutes later the streets got quiet and the buildings more run down. We clearly took the wrong door. We started to head back, when I said to Stevie 'What we need is a hot, young local that speaks English' Within 10 seconds our prays were answered. Appearing like an angel, but not speaking English. She drew us a Map. We were at the Station with another 10 minutes.
We grabbed some breakfast and shewed away the local poor kids begging for money before getting on the bus to Belgrade. The Lonely Planet says it's a 3 hour journey, 5 hours later!! We arrive. Stevie wanted to stay in the Green Hostel advertised again in the Lonely Planet as a top choice. We didn't have a clue where it was or how to get there. Amazingly a sign popped up right in front of us stating it was only 100m away. …Result.
It was a party hostel, on arrival you get a free Raki shot. We passed. We managed to get the last 2 beds and headed out to a local restaurant for food. We ended up at a Trip Advisor winner and filled our tummies with the local cuisine.
After a short stroll around the area, we headed back to the hostel for a couple for beer with the other backpackers. As you can imagine from a party hostel, everyone was too busy talking rubbish, getting way to drunk and trying to pull each other. After little interaction we decided to head up to the dorm and stream some shows. One of the girls in our room from Switzerland was way to drunk and decided to stay with us instead of joining the bar crawl. Its amazing how drunk everyone got with the free Raki. That night if we were not kept awake by the music until 3am, It was helping our room mate as she was sick all over her bed...
