17th August
We had the best sleep in the best bed and a ridiculously hot powerful shower...it really is the little things in life! Happy and clean we headed to the nearest TAM office, hoping we could get a flight to Santa Cruz as we are still dreading the 25 hour bus ride.....we were in luck we managed to get a flight for tomorrow for £39 each...score. Feeling alot happier about the journey tomorrow we head back to the hostel to say goodbye to Trent, Kyle and Begonia who are heading to Potosi. After we went to a restaurant that Mark found in the lonely planet that serves full English breakfasts..... (it's wasn't great)
With the whole day ahead of us we wander around the streets taking in the sights and end up at the central market where we brought fruit and watched the locals hack up a pig! Mark manages to buy some more cotton and needles so he can get back on track with sewing on his badges.....I can't decide what part of day has made him happier....flights, breakfast or this!
Sucre is our favourite city in Bolivia, it is spacious, clean and has a young vibe.
When we leave the market we get momentarily lost and stumble across some sort of school fête in a park, there are several stalls each advertising a Bolivian district with the kids dressed up in traditional clothing....it amuses us!
Finally back at the hostel we decide to get our laundry done from the last few days and who appears....Ray....he is back on the scene and in the room next door.
We catch up and exchange salt flat stories before doing our usual routine and head to the cinema to watch Total Recall.....£6 for two tickets, popcorn and two drinks....I'm such a cheap date! :)
The film was good and Mark's day just keeps getting better....2 hours watching Kate Beckinsale!
After a quick phone call to Jackie we go for dinner, as it is our last night with Ray we decide to splash out and get a nachos, pepper steak and fruit crepes for dessert washed down with 2 bottles of Vino de Casa, all for 100 bolivianos each (that's about £10).....I'm going to miss these Bolivian prices!
On the walk back we go through the main plaza where there seem to be end of a concert of sorts....we see the marching band and a group of teenagers dancing in traditional clothes. Then it's off to bed for all of us.
