Mexico :)
First stop: Cancun - chatted about this in the first blog - what a place!
Did I mention that we got a $80 fine for not wearing seat belts (from a guy who 100% was not a cop - well at least we dont think he was one - but he took Ant's drivers licence and refused to give it back without paying - long story short $80 fine!)
We also rented a car and when we returned it someone had stolen our spare tire out the boot! urg.
Besides that drama - Cancun is very touristy - but also very beautiful and party capital for sure!
We headed out to Valladolid (very beautiful little town with pastel coloured buildings and cobblestone roads) to visit Chichen-Itza (mayan ruins) and Ek Balam (a cenote - not as impressive as other cenotes - but we swam in it with the catfish anyways!)
We then caught the bus to Tulum to dive in the cenotes.
Cenote : sinkhole from the collapsing of limestone bedrock to expose the underground river system in Mexico.
We found a great little backpacker who put us in touch with a very good dive master who took us to 2 cenotes:
1. The Pit
This cenote is a deeper dive, with a smaller hole at the top, allowing light in- causing beautiful light beams into the cenote. There are a few stalactites and stalagmites, but the main feature is the "white cloud" which is white hydgrogen sulphur that has collected close to the bottom of the cenote - and when you dive through the cenote - you see layers of white patterns and layers of water! out of this world beautiful!! and very hard to explain! For sure 1 of the best dives of our lives!! Ant and I were both tagged in a video of this dive on facebook :) you just gotta see it to understand!
Check out this video of the same dive we did

2. Pet Cemetery
This cenote is more of a cave - with very impressive stalactities and stalagmites that are bright white! the dive is shallow and the darkness of the cave creats a "black mirror" on the top of the water - and all the elements of the cave are then mirrored in the top of the water
(cenotes are excellent dives! the visibility is said to be more than 300m!!)
In the middle of pet cemetery, you come to the surface and there is a hole in the roof, letting light in and lighting up a little oasis (gotta go see the video for this one!) Very beautiful :)
O yea there are a couple human and pet (horse) bones in the cenote :)
check this video out of the dive - look for the black mirror

So after some epic parties in Cancun, checking some mayan ruins, and diving in underground rivers - we were ready to leave Mexico and head on to Belize to dive the "Blue Hole" and hopefully catch the whalesharks!
