Belize
After being attacked by mosquitos, we found a little piece of paradise, right on the water of Caye Caulker, our first stop in Belize.
This island has 1 main road, which is 0.8 miles long - no cars, only golfcarts :) We came here to dive the famous Blue Hole!
First tour was a 3 stop snorkelling tour to Coral Gardens, Shark&Ray alley and Hol Chan (the best snorkelling in belize.)
At Coral Gardens we saw a manatee (yay!) and got to snorkel up really close to him.
The best stop by far was Shark&Ray alley - where the nurse sharks and stingrays come to get fed by the boats - these sharks go crazy for the food the guys throw off the boat for them! You get to jump into the water, and the guide catches and holds the sharks upside down - the sharks go into a kind of trance - and just chills there while everyone touches them - its crazy awesome!
Hol Chan was also pretty good - with our guide stroking all the moray eels and patting all the grouper! :)
Next was the dive of the Blue Hole - a very bumpy 2 hour boat ride away!
The blue hole is an atoll, with large stalactites and stalagmites to swim through, and a drop off to 120m. Very beautiful dive - with lots of caribbean reef sharks.
From the blue hole, we made our way to another 2 reefs, where we saw eagle rays, stingrays, more sharks and the oldest turtle you have ever seen!! DEFINITELY over 100 years old :)
On route we stopped at a tiny little island called Half Moon Caye, and jumped off the boat to check out the Booby colony.
All in all - epic day!
We then departed on a 50-foot sailboat with 11 other strangers and 2 crewmen to sail, drink, fish, snorkel and camp our way from the top to the bottom of Belize. We traveled down the second biggest barrier reef in the world heading to our first stop, an uninhabited island called Rendezvous Caye. The entire sailing voyage was for three days and two nights with the Raggamuffins company; we left from Caye Caulker in the north of Belize and finished in Placencia - southern Belize. It was hot; the sun was beaming down while we set sail for our adventure. The tiny island of Rendezvous Cay had only about 9 palm trees on it - we camped there the first night. Second night we camped on another small island called Tabacco Caye. Unlimited booze and lots of fishing and snorkelling - Ant even shot his first fish while spear fishing!
Next stop - Guatemala!
