Arriving in pittsburgh we didnt know what to expect not heard too much about and purely stopped there because it was enroute and also was goin to be our first couch surfing experience...when we met our hosts sarah and Elliot they seemed really nice made us some quesdillas and then took us down to the marina to meet some of there friends...when we got there we were actually suprised that they took us out on the boat and we got to see all of pittsburgh from the river view which thta topped with a few beers was pretty damn good...big thumbs up for first impressions we saw the two main stadiums for there teams and also the many bridges that pittsburgh has, when we eventually got back onto dry land we lit a fire and made smores could not get anymore american if i tried but was a really nice night even if at some point we had a discussion over life insurance.
following day we headed out to see some sights and went to the cathedral of learning which has had a room from every continent donated to it and each is furinshed in that countries traditional style quite strange to see, but we had a grandma and her grandaughters show us around the rooms and were told some facts about each room. we then headed to this mexican place where i had my first 'real' burrito..chicken rice salad and some other things it was huge!! took me a while to get through it then i went to market square to see what was goin on there kind of a little market and locals really nice and sweet tried some really good cheese...i also tried to go to the strip district which i couldnt find later on found out i was only a few blocks away!...As it was getting later we had to meet up for our hosts friends leaving meal at a place called brgr where we drank a few drinks had some sambucas and then had a Huge burger and i shred some fries with sarah and eveyone had alcoholic milkshakes which were suprisingly good!..after the meal we headed to some bars where i played dumb so i could keep getting free samples of drinks and some dudes brought me this blue candy thing. Afterwards we headed to this eighties club real indie and i had some more bad beer...but then we chilled on the sofas and the guys played some darts...also random that later on we found out our next host was in there that night too. So following day due to everyone having drank all the girls spent it chilling round the pool taking it easy but later on i had to sort my phone out and get me an american number and also sort my flight from chicago to Las Vegas....before heading off to pittsburgh mountain to meet deana.
when we got to deanas we met jessica first and werent sure we were at the right place but found we were did the intros and then we quickly went to grab a slice and then it was a case of get ready and go out....we had some vodka and fruit punch for pre drinks and after getting more and more drinks it was time to head to southside, which is your typical american scene bars along the whole street and full to the brim apperently the longest row of bars in america but i spose thats what you expect from a college town. I did however use my accent to full advantage and got many free drinks and food at one point i had two hotdogs in my hand most pittsburgh people have never met english people one person thought i was putting the accent on...funny! Deana and jessica just laughed at me beacuse everytime they turned round i was chatting to someone new with a new drink gaylin wanted me to get him some free drinks too! on the way back though i thought we got in a cab turns out we all got in a random black van...too drunk to know the difference. so far america has showed me how they drink and obviously influenced sweet innocent me!!!
Next day we headed out to the regetta which was quite a big event espicially as there was also some famous country westrern singer on aswell i actually got to see some real american rednecks tailgating. there were so many boats and shows food stands everywhere i saw a dog show some cheerleaders and lots of tanned people like really tanned! so later that afternoon we headed out to meet jessicas school friends at a german place where oktoberfest began...i had this german creamy potato bacon soup which was pretty amazing to be fair considering i wasnt expecting much...i of course also had the two pint larger which hurt my wrist to lift! we also did a bit of the old jump on the tables swing your beer and sing stuff aswell after getting pictures with the band that is. Later on we headed back to southside and went to the tiki lounge which i danced for what seemed like forever but i do not like the fowrdness of the american guys not for me! but either way would recommend to anyone to check pittsburgh out for a few days certainly suprised me!
