So I finally have a chance to sit down and sort through everything that has been going on the past week and a half. Everyone here is so friendly...and after a few beers they get a little too friendly. But it is entertaining nontheless. Orientation wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. They don't make you play those awkward "get to know people" icebreaker games. They don't hold your hand here, they simply tell you what you need to know, and leave it at that. While talking about culture shock, the speaker (who is the head of study abroad here) dropped the Fbomb at least ten time. I would love to see Father Shlegel do that sometime haha.
My classes have been good so far. The way I have it schedule, I won't have class on Mondays, which will leave time from travel. So keep your fingers crossed. These are the classes i'm taking:
Russian Politics, Europe: Enlightenment and Revolution, Early Modern Europe and Ireland, History of Ireland :1750-1850, Irish Folklore.
The campus is HUGE and these Irish people must have been drunk while laying out the floor plan. If I have a class on the first floor, I have to go up to the 4th floor. I feel like a freshman all over again.
Last night I went to a Rugby game, Munster vs. Cardiff. I cannot even tell you how many times I heard "ohhh for f***s sake" I also was lucky enough to experience watching/hearing a 7 year old drop the Fbomb. Munster won, so that was good, and all the UL students got a free pint of Bulmers afterwards. I've joined to clubs here, the Outdoor Pursuits Club, and the International Society. Tomorrow I am going hiking with the OPC through the Kerry Way. From Glencar to Glenbeigh, which i believe is around an 8 mile hike. It is supposed to be one of the most georgeous hikes in all of Ireland. Next weekend I hope to go to Galway for the weekend with the International Society.
