Okay. So I just want to go over a few of the little things that I have left out because I need sleep to function. But I made a list in the car today, so here goes:
The Vatican:
We went in the Pinocetta (sp?) gallery at the Vatican Museum where they had a bunch of Rafael Paintings. This was MUCH better than the Uffizi Museum. We then made out way to the Sistine Chapel, however, on the way we stumbled upon the Galleria of Maps. This room was incredible (I will get around to putting pictures up soon). The hallway seemed to go on forever, with every square inch covered in paintings, frames, statues, etc. We made it to the Sistine Chapel, which was even more incredible than we thought it would be. The Last Judgment was HUGE. I always see these famous paintings or sculptures in textbooks, but they are NOTHING compared to the real thing. We then went into St. Peter's Basilica. We then sat outside the building and watched as people entered. The rules were as follows: shoulders have to be covered, and skirts/dresses have to be close to the knee. So Dad and I were dressed in pants and t-shirts on the scorching day. We were complaining and were sure that they were going to let people in no matter what they were wearing etc. etc. HOWEVER, they Really did kick people out and turn them away. There must have been a scarf business that was making a LOT of money. Girls that were turned away would go and buy a scarf and wrap it around their skankily short dresses. For some reason it was fascinating to watch, as Dad and I stayed for at least and hour. There was one girl particularly who put up a fight (most people had been courteous and understood the modest dress policies). She started yelling and called the guards racist. She put up quite a scene, and yes, she was American. Super, keep our awesome reputation going strong.
Today we climbed a mountain. No big deal. On this particular mountain (Mystras) we encountered 2 couples from Lakeville, MN. They were jealous that we had brought water bottles. We are the smart Minnesotans.
PS. Don't tell dad this, but he is not very good at listening to directions. I am pretty good with maps. It's the truth, what can you do? Yet when I tell him to turn somewhere, he just can't believe it. "The road doesn't look right" So we go a different way, we get lost, and eventually turn where I said to the in the first place. It happens all the time. Hopefully soon he will realize my directional abilities and just make the turn the first time.
Jokes of the Day:
Said while watching a truck descend the mountain ahead of us
Dad: Yeah it doesn't seem like he's rushin'
Me: Yeah, you're probably right, I be he's Greek!
Said while dicussing our hatred of olives:
Me: Yeah when I get veggie pizza I pick allof the olives off.
