(written a week later for obvious reasons!!)
The week in Invermere is a bit of a blur now , but suffice to say, Sam managed to get out every day searching for the elusive cougar ( animal variety)!!! Some days he was gone for just the morning, and other days he was out later. He walked for miles , and hours ,I think over the week. He really enjoyed the time out in the Great Outdoors and spending time with Dale, who was relentless in his quest to find a cat for Sam. Our time with Dale and Cindy was really enjoyable, and we hope we can return again sometime to continue the quest.
While Sam was out, I occupied myself with sleeping, driving into town and shopping - visited the op shop 3 times!!!, having coffee with Cindy, reading, playing on the computer and going down to have breakfast by myself!! I also managed to get a ½ day of skiing in with Dave and Doris at Panorama, on the last day before we left. It was an amazing day and I really enjoyed it, beautiful groomed slopes, nice weather and I skied like a pro - well in my eyes anyway. Had a slight hiccup on the way back down the mountain when I decided to take a slight detour to take photos of a frozen lake and couldn't make it back up the track - sliding backwards and sideways and then stuck!!! Fortunately 2 ladies at the lake came and helped when I when cried!!! It was so traumatic I had to stop on the way back at A&W burgers and get yam fries- aaahhh comfort food
I also had a tour around Invermere and checked out the lake with all the ice fishing huts on it, cars driving on it, and a family cycling on it!!
In between the hunts, we had dinner at the Rocky Grill restaurant at the hotel , with Dale and Cindy, dinner at their house, dinner at Dale's parents place, and had a ½ day skiing at Panorama, where I bravely did a black diamond run!!!,followed by dinner with the Penners. It was like coming home - especially having a hot chocolate at Lustis!!! We also watched Dale and Cindy in a Curling competition and were educated in the game by an Olympic champion.
Every afternoon, I managed to speak to my dear dad on Facetime, which I am really grateful for.
It was a full week, ending with a very sad phone call from home to tell me that dad was not well and I needed to return home. Sam went out for a last hunt in the morning as I made arrangements to get us back and we then drove back to Calgary to start the long haul flight home. Dad passed away while we were flying between Calgary and Vancouver. The flight home was horrendous, with Sam and I not getting seats together, not having exit row seats but being squished in at the back, and being in such grief. We eventually arrived home to be greeted by Heidi, Beth and Fern, as well as Mum and Brenda.
