After our 7hr car journey (sharing the driving) we arrived at Tanaya Lodge, just outside the National Park....still married and still talking to each other!
Just like something you could imagine from a film, Tanaya Lodge is all dark wood, open fires and stuffed animal heads mounted on walls . Our stay there was wonderful, with a great restaurant serving american size portions and a bar with a campfire outside.
Getting deep in to the national park takes about an hour, due to the 25mph speed limit, but you wouldn't want to go any faster. The views are spectacular, including Tunnel view (feature pic) which is possibly the most beautiful sight I have ever seen!
We made the most of the park and decided we would increase the pace slightly and join a hiking trail. Called the mist trail (Vernal Falls) we had already been informed that we would be hiking up the side of a waterfall. However, I dont think Steve and I were prepared for what we were to partake in !
600 steps later and slightly soaked we reached the top and it was so worth the pain that the steep inclines and steps had brought us!! An amazing view and what an experience!!
After exploring the park we drove the very winding roads up to 7000ft elevation to Glacier point...another fantastic view of half dome and Vernal Falls.
On our second day we drove back in to the park to see the Mariposa trees some of the biggest and tallest trees. Another must see!
After seeing the Mariposa trees we had to be on our way again...so off we headed for San Fransico....
