Well we made it to the NT which we have decided stands for Nothing There!
Its 27 Degrees in the evening, we got off the plane at 2am and nearly died!! I Constantly feel like im going to melt! Our first accomodation was worse than LA. We turned up to find reception closed so had to ge tthe Janitor out of bed. The room was painted 5 different colours, again a double bed (apparently thats what twin means out here) and the showers and toilets were outside as was the kitchen! Also they have Large Cockroaches here so i decided that going to the toilet at night just wasnt an option!!
Free Breakfast Turned out to be Pancakes and Maple Syrup which is just what you want to cook at 30 degrees in the morning!
There is nothing in Darwin, we see the same people all the time, mostly just the Janitor who seems to be stalking us! He told us we had to dry our ears out or we would get tropical ear??
Our New Hostel is really nice, they have a spa deck with cold water so you can sit and relax. Im at a burn rating of about 2, which means a stupid strip on my foot and arm! You would have thought i could put cream on by now!! Eevn kate is in Factor 15, you step outside for 5 mins and get a tan!
To sum Darwin up, you cant swim in a pool or your ears drop off, you cant swim in the sea as there are crocs, you cant go to the loo coz of dunnie spiders and roaches and last night we found you cant go out in the dark as they have bats the size of Plymouth seagulls!!
Kates Bit!!
Hey Guys! Not really loving darwin all that much to be honest. Its pretty skanky and there isn't a helluva lot to do. The weather has been sooo hot for the first few days i didn't really feel i could do annything that involved leaving the air conditioned areas. Feeling a bit more used to it now though and even managed a bit of sunbathing at our new (and greatly improved hostel).
My burnt hand is still a skanky mess. It's blistered badly all over the my index finger nuckle although thankfully the rest of it seems to be healing up ok...i have taken some photos of it (for max sympathy) but i'm having a few probs uploading them at the mo. Hopefully i will be able to sort it when we get to Alice Springs.
Just like to say i am thoroughly freaked out by Aborigines...they kinda hang around outside restaurants in town wearing torn fragments of clothing an no shoes. Claire likened them to a collection of Zonbies and i think she was right on the mark. They also stink! Pee and BO is a must smell in the Northern teritory!
Right gotta go and take some pictures of some giant bats...wonder if they are carnivore??????
hope you are all well....
love Kate
