Greetings from Pakistan.....
When we were leaving Iran to come here I will admit I was a little apprehensive, the media make it out to be a country of people who want to kill you and terrorism everywhere you go but this place is just so far away from that image! Everyone here are so friendly, if I felt like a celebrity in Iran then I must be a superstar in Pakistan as whereever we go children are running after us and middle aged men and women are asking us for our photos and want to talk to us! We had to fly from Iran due to unsafe border crossings so we flew from Tehran to Karachi...flight was good until the landing where we had crazy turbulance and I thought this is it arrrhhhhhhh!!!! We walked out of the airport and the heat hit us, 50 degrees heat!!! As soon as we saw the town I felt safe and loved the place, they have really cool public transport buses and lorries which are decorated really colourfully kind of like the 60's hippy era with love written across the back. People are literally hangjing off any part possible and climbing up on top of them at 80 mph. That brings me onto the start of our Asian driving adventures....they drive like maniacs, we are screaming everytime it looks like death is coming our way ha ha! From Karachi we headed towards Lahore Via Hyperabad, Sukkur and Multan where we had road blockades and police escorts to our every wim. At one point we had over 100 police escorts and a sniper on the roof of our hotel to protect us! Apparantly they can then go home and tell their family they single handedly protected 20 westerners. Finally once we arrived to Lahore we went to the flag closing ceremony on the border of Pakistan and Iran where they have a dance off type thing to state who is better than who! The dancing is hilarious and the soliders aim to get their legs as high to their heads as possible and pretty much smack themselves in the face!!!! Well off to India tomorrow...Korma here I come!
