Sea kayaking is amazing. We started in a little tributary river and made our way into Auke Bay. In the estuary, Harbor seals popped their heads up RIGHT NEXT to the kayak. They are like little sea dogs. They followed the kayaks until we reached the bay.
Along the shores, there were some Sitka spruce with bald eagles just chilling. It was like an Eagle den there were so many. No lie, one tree had eight bald eagles. They would swoop over the kayaks. Some feathers were floating in the water, which we scooped up. I am proud to announce I am now the proud owner of an eagle tailfeather. Other wildlife spotted, a small porpoise.
Sometimes, local resident orca pods or humpback whales are seen in Auke Bay. It was rainy, though, and unfortunately, we did not see any whales....
While on the two mile paddle across Auke Bay, we diverged into a little creek. This creek happened to be swarming with Chum salmon. For serious, I, Ashley Hennessey, bare handed a freaking salmon out of the creek. It was awesome. I may or may not have lost a point and shoot camera in the process......
