Helloooooo,
We are currently relaxing in Pattaya, about 1.5 hours south-east of Bangkok on the coast. We are staying with Ella at her Dad's condo which is great :)
What can we say about Pattaya???? Certainly don't come here if you are easily offended! The streets are lined with 60 and 70 year old Europeans with 20-something year old Thai girls on their arm. The city is a hub of go-go bars, massage parlours and tourist tat. It is definitely not somewhere to bring the children - although we have seen many people here on family holidays! It seems to be a holiday hotspot for Russians also!
The city really comes to life at night - particularly down Walking Street - which is full of scantily clad Thai girls enticing you into their club, and you can't walk 10 yards without being offered a ping pong show.
Having said all of the above, Stevie & I have really enjoyed oursleves. If you look past the 'sleaze' (I can't think of a nicer word to use instead) there are some real treats here. We have been very fotunate to be in the company of Ella, her Dad and Lemon, a Thai local. Lemon knows all the good places and will always make sure we get a local price, not the foreigner price.
We have eaten at the Beer Garden, which looks out over the sea. It was a busy night, but after 10 minutes of waiting we were given prime seating right in the front corner overlooking the sea and the boats. It is very dimly lit, but they provided torches so we could see the menues properly.
We went to see the worlds largest gold Buddha and to the vineyards nearby. We enjoyed a bottle of wine in the cool airconditioned restaurant, with huge glass windows to look out over the fields.
We braved the local market which was heaving with bodies to sample the fish at one of Lemon's favourite places. That meal cost 450baht for 5 people - with 2 huge whole fish, noodles, salad, herbs and sauces. This has been our favourite meal in Thailand so far, and has to be up there with our favourite meals of our whole trip.
We have discovered the sellers that line the streets on Pattaya. The fresh orange juice is amazing, and the banana pancakes are to die for! Dripping with fat and not good for the waistline, but they taste devine!!!!!
We have been to Chris' (Ella's dad) other house to relax around the pool and have a BBQ. The food was delish! We had squid, fish, crab, mussels and ribs. Yummy!!!!
We've had a day at the beach which allowed me to catch up on some reading. I read the book 'Mister Pip' which was an easy read, and sad!
All in all, we've had a great time here in Pattaya. We're off to Cambodia on Wednesday, so updates to follow when we have been to Ankor Wat!
Lots of love, hugs and kisses
Stevie & Sam
I was also taken to a reputable tattoo shop so I could get a new tattoo :D It is a small one by my right hipbone, and is in Thai script. It is so cute! It say 'My Mother, my Father'. I LOVE IT!!!
