Hello :)
Well, Mum and Dad arrived safely in Singapore. Unfortunately for me and Steve, our flight was cancelled! But not to worry - we were bumped onto an airbus A380 an hour later than we were due to depart, so all was fine in the end.
We landed at Changi Airport at 2230, and it was lovely to see Mum and Dad waiting for us at he airport! There is only glass that seperates the luggage belts from the arrivals lounge, so we could see them through the glass, but couldn't give them hugs as we had to wait for our bags! But finally, the bags came through and we ran round to get some well overdue hugs and kisses. A bit emotional and wonderful all at he same time.
So over the next 2 days, we went to China Town and saw the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple - beautiful colours and lots of gold! We filled our bellies on chicken fried rice, noodles, prawns and spring rolls. I will definitely be puting on a few pounds over the next few weeks with all the faty foods we're eating.
We went to Raffles as this just has to be done if you are visiting Singapore. I had the mandatory Singapore Sling which was lovely-jubley. Stevie tried a bloody mary, which he will not be having again! Mum also had the Sling and Dad had beer. The hotel was smelt of money and monkey nuts. In the bar, they are bowls full of nuts on the tables which you shell, then just throw the shells on the floor. The whole floor was just a carpet of nut shells. On the ceiling they have old colonial style fans which sway to and fro to keep you cool. It was 15GBP for a cocktail, so we didn't have too many.
We also walked along the harbour front which offers a spectacular view of the Singapore skyline. This is to be appreciated more at night, so we returned to the site of The Sands. The building itself is spectacular, We had drinks at a litle cafe by the harbour, where we were treated to a light and water show. It was amazing, performed to the tune of Louis Armstrongs Wonderful World. The projected images onto billows of smoke, with lasers and lights, and water jets, all different colours, and bubbles. We looked up to see thousands of bubles floating across the sky! Lovely :)
We wanted to get a beter view of the city, which has to be done from the Skypark atop The Sands Hotel. This is at a price of S$20 per person. I don't know how, but we managed to get a free pass for the 4 of us up to the top...bonus! It was a magnificent view from up there, and we could really appreciate the skyline and bright lights of Singapore.
We had a fantastic couple of days in Singapore, and made our way to Kuala Lumpur on Friday. Just a short stay here, with the mandatory visit o the KLCC towers - I have toi say, they were pretty impresive - and we are off to the train station this evening for a night train to Langkawi.
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Hannah & Paul on the birth of their baby girl Isla. We are so pleased for you both, and can't wait o meet her when we get home.
Lots of love to you all
Stevie & Sam xx
