Hello everyone!
Hope all is well back home?
Mum, Dad, Stevie & I went to the Island of Langkawi during the time we had together. From Singapore, we took the train to Kuala Lumpur and stayed for 1 night there. KL was a nice enough place - we were pretty impressed by the Petroleum Towers. They are so bright and huge! We had a walk around the city but other than that, we really didn't do too much.
So, the next day we took the overnight sleeper train to Arua. We were supposed to depart KL at 2120, but the train had broken down so we didn't leave until after 2200. As we were queuing to go down the escalators to the train, Mum had a laughing fit because a local had referred to Dad as 'Grandad'. For anyone who has ever heard mum laugh, you will know how loud it is and, lets say, unusual. EVERYONE in the station was staring at us. Mum's laughing then got Dad gigling away, and me too!
Eventually we got on the train for the night. The beds weren't too bad, although Stevie got a little motion sick. I don't think anyone had a great nights sleep, but it was fine and did the job. When we arrived at Arua, we got a taxi to the ferry pier, then waited for the ferry over to Langkawi.
We spent 4 nights in Langkawi. It was nice to be at the beach and not have to do much. We had a day of travelling round the island in a rental car. We went to 2 different waterfalls - the first one had run out of water! The second one was lovely - very refreshing. Mum dipped her toe and said it was too cold. We spent a good ampoount of time not really knowing where we were and having to ask for directions. I found things were really poorly signposted and every sign we did see always said the place would be in 500m. Then we would see another sign after 500m that said the place would be in 500m.
We had some lovely meals whilst on the island, notably 2 Indian meals! Both worked out at around 6pounds per head including beer and wine. Very enjoyable.
Mum and Dad treated me to some new trousers, and Stevie some leather bracelets. I also got a pair of pearl earrings for Valentines Day off mum & dad :) as sadly I lost one of the pearl earrings I wore for our wedding day.
We left Langkawi on the 16th - heading for Bangkok on the overnight sleeper again...
Lots of love and hugs
Stevie & Sam xxx
