After a distinctly sleep lacking night we arrived in Luang Prabang at 5am via tuk tuk, as luck would have it we were just in time to see the precession of monks walking down the street passed the temple where locals and tourists alike were seated with rice in hand giving alms to the monks, unable to purchase food the receivers rely on this as a source of sustenance and the givers improve their karma.
We rudely awoke a local hotelier and booked into the Watthat Guesthouse, straight to bed we needed a few hours kip! The afternoon and the evening was spent wandering around the town, it was a beautiful colonial style town on the banks of the mighty Mekong river, we enjoyed lunch with a view on its banks and saw the sun set atop the Phusi Stupa that dominates the towns skyline.
We planned and executed a lie in the following day and indulged in a time consuming brunch. Having recently moved our flights we had some time to breathe and were in no rush that day. We booked our tour for the following two days and arranged onward boat travel to the boarder then jumped on a tuk tuk to check out the famous Luang Prabang waterfalls. Tad Sae was our destination, nothing could have prepared us for the majesty of this water fall, it cascaded in large terraces steps each one a man deep with Chrystal clear water turned turquoise by the rocks minerals. We had the upper steps to ourselves whilst below us, swimmers swam, divers dove and jumpers jumped. Even further down, giddy tourists rode elephants bare back in the falls for a swim like no other, above zip lines squealed as people hung like chickens in a butchers flew passed from tree to tree. The evening was topped of with a boat across the river to a hidden restaurant where we indulged in a do it yourself barbecue.
