The Simple Life
The last 2 weeks in Perth flew by in a whirl of BBQ's, drinks, meals and madness. Oh, some packing in between!!
We had another great night with Noel's family and turned up very tired and hungover for our trip to Rottenest the next morning. Finally, after 3 months in Perth, we made it to Rottenest Island and we were very glad we'd made the effort to go. We caught 10 crayfish, snorkelled in the bay, had a couple of drinks in the pub and saw a quokka in the urinal. All you need for a fantastic day really. Although it was a bit tense on the ride home especially when Lyndsay thought she would re-enact a scene from Miami Vice and took over the helm of the speedboat!
Met up with Liz (Noel's mum) and Linda (her best friend) for dinner on the Wednesday night that week but apart from that spent our time working and planning our Great Ocean Road trip.
Friday evening we had yet another BBQ, this time with Graeme (Lyndsay's boss) and his wife Louise. Great food and nice chilled evening. Just what we needed before our leaving night of madness at Geisha!!!!!!!!!
Got home from Graeme's on the Saturday morning, quickly changed and headed to our luxury hotel, provided kindly by Oor Rodders (found out it wasn't as kind a gesture as we first thought - he told us it was just to get us out the house for 1 night - cheek). Chilled out in our apartment suite (yes we know much more suited to us than hostels) for the afternoon and then headed to the restaurant for our free gourmet dinner. A bit dazed and confused we made complete arses of ourselves. "Is this the restaurant?" we ask the waitress with blank expressions, it was a room filled with tables and cutlery........ This tickled us somewhat and by the time the waitress came to see if we wanted to order drinks we were practically face down on the table hysterical with laughter. Realising that she wasn't going to leave without an order Lyndsay managed to squeak "house white please" which made Lynne collapse even more. She couldn't even look at the waitress all you could hear was the occasional snort. We eventually managed to compose ourselves, nice mascara all over their lovely linen napkins and we placed our order for our meal. Discussions of who was going to play us and our men in "The Simple Life - The Movie" brought on more hysterics. Having a breather from our starter, the now exasparated waitress came to relieve us of our plates only for us to retort "We're Not Finished Yet". As she turned to leave Lynne's comment of "Do you think we look this way by leaving food on our plates?" caused us to almost have hernias at the table. We had to wolf down our gorgeous meal and leave the restaurant before we were thrown out!!!!!!!
Emma joined us in the apartment for pre-nightout drinks and we headed for the Brisbane Hotel around 9:30pm. We were joined there by the 2 Mikeys, Andy, Damien, Tommo, Andrew and Rodders. A number of vodkas were swallowed before we staggered off to Geisha. The carnage began as I'm sure you'll have seen from the photos. We danced, drank and had a ball until 6am when the Skipster raised her white flag and we all fell back to the hotel.
We don't know how she managed it but barely 2 hours later Emma was up and on her way to Rottenest to pick up the crays again! We salute you Skip. We had dragged ourselves up by 10am ready for check-out and had a hair raising drive back to the house. Really don't think Emma should have left the red rocket in our incapable hands. After an afternoon kip in Emma's bed we headed to the "irn-bru" shop. Yes, we had found a supermarket in Perth who stocked the bru. We bought every bottle in the shop and whipped up a gorgeous Sunday roast, followed by chocolate cake and ice-cream. The only way to cure a hangover!! Some of you may remember this trick from London days......
Our last few days in Perth were upon us and again like London we were starting to dread all the goodbyes. Mikey had a dinner party for us on the Wednesday night, where bless him he prepared pasta for 15 of us. Good effort Miguel. The highlight of the evening was his leaving gift to us 2, he said how he knew we enjoyed beach life so he'd got us a little something to help us admire the view - binoculars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bit teary saying goodbye to Noel's mummy and we probably cuddled and kissed everyone else about 25 times before we could eventually leave.
The following evening (our last night) we had another dinner planned at the Subi Hotel with Emma's crowd. It was another great evening, the tears flowed as we handed Emma her leaving gifts and superbly constructed poem by Lyndsay. More mascara messes.
Well 15th of April and we were on our way to the airport after 3 fabulous months in Perth. A great big thank you to everyone who made our stay there fantastic. A special thanks to Skip and Rodders for their hospitality. It was a quick farewell with Skippy as I think we were all cried out. Here's to July in Sydney Em.......
Our next adventure was about to begin.......
