Ton Sai beach is climbing Mecca - not being a climber myself I'm just enjoying the stunning scenery (and being a hippie on the beach!).
After non-stop partying on Phi Phi we needed a rest, and as the weather on the Eastern islands is bad (thunderstorms!) we decided to stay on the West side and take in some of the less-well-known beaches. Rai Ley had been recommended to me by a few people, but after a slightly worrying trek around in the dark trying in vain to find a place to stay we ended up on the beach next door, Ton Sai - and I'm so glad we did! Ton Sai is gorgeous; its very chilled here, with a hippie-ish, laid-back vibe. All around me are people with dreadlocks, tribal tattoos and fisherman trousers (don't worry, I haven't been tempted). The towering limestone cliffs are littered with climbers but I've been enjoying the beach, and saw a beautiful golden-pink sunset last night...
Mum jokes that I'm like Snow White these days - surrounded by wildlife. Never more true than here - monkeys amble around the island like they own it, birds of prey swoop down on unsuspecting fish (and chicks, yikes), and the ever-present geckos provide our evensong. We're staying in a cute beach hut, and our road is made up of a few resorts, a banana pancake stall and lots of hippie bars. Blissful.
We're headed to Malaysia next, first stop Kuala Lumpar for a couple of days before Zoe leaves. But Amy (who we met in Halong Bay) is coming to join us, yay, so we won't be lonely. I absolutely love the Thai islands and wish I had longer here, am already plotting a return visit for next New Year - I could get used to being a beach bum!

Jeremy Glad to hear you're working hard at being a traveller in clearly tough conditions. But I'd suggest the tribal tat is maybe a step too far. And don't worry, back here in the cold and dark we're keeping the yogurt world moving. Enjoy yourself and don't come back too soon. Jx
