This post is about Buenos Aires, but I'm writing it in Brazil - I'm bac in Sao Paulo.. briefly. Temporarily no more gracias, back to obrigarda. I'm en route from buenos Aires to Bogota, Colombia. I haven't been to bed yet as had to leave at 3a.m…. let's hope the next flight is smooth so I can get some shut-eye.
So, where are we..? Heading back to Buenos Aires for our last couple of days, I was determined to finally see a tango show. It was worth the wait - tango is such a glamorous dance and the show was great. Scott even enjoyed it (thank you), and like true Argentinians we waited until after the show to eat - I had the most delicious pumpkin and spinach cream crepe, yum yum. The food in Argentina is really, really good. For our last day we chilled out in gorgeous Palermo (I love it there, I want to live in Palermo), ate cheesecake, read our books (book number 37 of my trip so far) and hung out looking very much like locals. Ahem.
For our last night here, it had to be steak.I'd heard about a great place called La Cabrera, a Buenos Aires institution where you queue around the block for hours on end, being served free champagne to keep you warm. We were accompanied by a lovely girl called Becky wh we'd met at The Chillhouse last time we were here, and my friend Jamal from Rainey Kelly! By random coincidence he was in BA on a shoot with work (advertising is just not as glam as it used to be, huh?). The wait for a table was actually quite good fun (strange how champagne can do that…), and we chatted merrily, Scott trying out his best Spanglish (talk LOUDER and add an S to everything seems to be his rule of thumb). Once inside, a feast was servied. I had a sirloin steak topped with blue cheese, accompanied by provoncale cheese, fries, honey mustard mash, creamed spinach, and a tasty orangey coloured mash of no known origin. All washed down with champagne, of course. Delicious.
So of course it was a late night, therefore I haven't been to bed yet. Hoping to get some zzz's on the next flight (have exhausted the duty-free perfume-trying-on, make-up-testing, window-shopping-for-posh-sunglasses and limped over to the wifi zone in search of a decent connection).
It's been great having Scott over for a holiday - we've drunk lots of wine, eaten a whole cow's worth of steak and even managed to do some exercise. In between all the eating.. I've even managed to get him across the roads safely (look the other way, Scott). In turn he has helped carry my by-now-quite-heavy bag (I'm travelling light, honest!), is very kindly transporting the fancy dress hats back to England, and has made me laugh about 50 times a day. Going to miss you. Next I'm off for Adventures in Colombia! Not on the original itinerary but I decided Bolivia sounded a bit dull - there are no beaches- and everyone who I've met who has been to Colombia just raves about it. I have about 3 weeks before I need to be in Peru for the Inca Trail (shudder, what was I thinking?!). Here goes…
