Hola from Microcentro, Buenos Aires!
Today´s blog entry is mostly for my grandparents, Mum, Dad and Piglet -my most avid readers! Hullo, I love you lots, I´m fine, I´m alive, it´s sunny, I´m now just 3 hours behind you and I´ve finally got over the jet lag.
So, I´ve moved from San Telmo to the very centre of the city, to meet my tour group (and stay in a hotel, yay, I love hotels.. you get 2 fluffy white towels each, luxury). So far, so good.. there are 12 of us in the group and it´s mostly made up of Aussies.. bodes well for some good nights out. I´m sharing with a lovely Scottish girl, Lynne, who´s currently recovering from a big night at Pacha last night... I´m saving that for when Scott gets here, bless our friend Ralph, his powers of Guestlist extend to South America.
I´ve walked MILES today, and feel like I´ve got to know the city much better. It´s really quite gorgeous, lots of stunning architecture and street art. I took the bus over to La Boca, a gorgeous Italian district with cobbled streets, brightly painted buildings and lots of people tango-ing their hearts out. Passing the famous Boca Juniors Stadium, I momentarily wished I´d forked out the 60 quid for a ticket, as hundreds of passionate supporters made the pilgrimage towards the stadium where Maradona made football history. Apparently. The average wage here is about 600 pounds a month, so its a lot to fork out for a ticket and they seem to take the whole family; they love footy here, everyone is currently glued to the TV watching it (1 all if you´re interested, although I have no idea who Boca are playing).
Over to San Telmo´s famous Sunday market - a shoppers delight, the streets are lined with stalls selling t-shirts, crafts, random antiques and of course fake Ray-Bans. It´s actually really nice there, had fun wandering around and trying to barter in Spanglish. I´m trying, am determined to learn Spanish (if only so that I don´t have to eat cheese sandwiches for every meal. Cuestos bocadillo, por favour).
On the way back to the Centro, I took in the sights of the Plaza De Mayo, with a huge pink government building with a balcony that Eva Peron/ Madonna once addressed the people from. Beautiful. Photos to follow soon!
Tomorrow I´m off to Uruguay (hopefully to find some nice beaches)... we´re getting the ferry. I distinctly remember upon leaving Asia saying that I would not be getting any more boats for a while. Thanks to Karl for the travel sickness tablets, they´ll come in handy :-/
Buenos noches x

Author Hullo little Piglet! (And Nana!) Thanks for all your messages, keep them coming.. I love reading them. Lucky you on half term, yay! What are you going to get up to? I want to see the Penguins of Madagascar film, maybe you can persuade Dad to take you? Looks good! They're so funny. Having a good time in Uruguay - did you look it up on the map? It's hot here, today we went to the beach and ate ice creams :) Tomorrow I'm getting a long bus journey North to Salto (still in Uruguay) - they have hot thermal springs there so I might go for a little dip. Then I go back into Argentina to go to the big waterfalls, hope I don't get too wet! Love you more (more, more, more, more) Your Becca xx
