Arrived in Lagos blistering temperatures finally found the hostel (Lagos central hostel) where we were staying/working. Smallish hostel, had everything we needed, shower, toilet, and kitchen etc. No where near as nice as the hostel we stayed in at Lisbon. We were placed in a room on the bottom floor just outside of the reception with the writing "Staff only please do not enter" on the door. We then went for a walk around the city and to the beaches. Amazing golden sand beaches with big rock formations surrounding them. Smaller city compared to the likes of Lisbon and Porto. Very touristy, with cafes and bars lining the streets with souvenir shops as well. After meeting everyone and going out to town, we were then told we were on shift tomorrow from 12 at night to 8 in the morning. Very quiet night only a few drunks coming in so we were able to get rid of them. We managed to watch 3 movies and as 8 came we quickly shot of to bed. One major down side to Lagos is the lack of supermarkets with this the lack of meat. The people in Lagos seem to be vegetarian with what New Zealand would call a dairy as in Lagos a supermarket. With packaged ham or packaged bacon essentially the only meat option. Luckily for us they had pasta so we were set for 6 meals a week. With the first day being extremely hot when we arrived we thought we were going to be in for a stellar month. This has not been the case with the last three days being mild with myself waking up getting into pants and a jersey, anyhow we hoping that this will pass and we will be able to enjoy the sun and at some point get into the water. All is well here in Lagos with every shift seeming to be no one coming in which makes it easy.
