Days 520-533, 14-27 Nov '15, Half Way Through Turkey! The weather has finally broken and rumours of the strength of Fethiye rain have proven true. We've been enjoying the never-ending summer for 4 weeks so far and it's only been the last couple of days that the thunder clouds and torrential rain have settled in. But that's OK. Fine weather due again for the foreseeable future in just a couple of days time. Meanwhile we have been making our own fun. Lots of walks in the countryside, visiting a local pide house for Turkish pizza, been out to one of the two restaurants open in Calis Beach for live music and a drink, and, per the picture, been cooking up a storm. One of our favourite markets in these parts is on Thursdays in our nearest village of Ciftlik (pron: Chif-lick). The usual array of fresh fruit and veges is there and we've also become regular clients of the fresh, fresh water trout man. Every week he's there with his tank-on-the-truck and these two beauties were ours for the princely sum of 4 lira (A$2). In the pan with some sizzling butter and some spicy sumac. Yummo. We also like to buy fresh yoghurt from a massive tub (thanks to our neighbour friends who pointed that one out... must admit we'd not been nosing about in the anonymous tub section). There's also a walnut truck - A$7.50 for a kilo of walnuts in their shells - incredibly fresh. Yesterday's outing also included a drive-by stop at a pharmacy - our friends pulled over, we nipped in, bought two flu vaccinations, out the back, sleeves up, needles in and away you go - 26 Turkish Lira - about $13. Well worth having given the generally germy risks of travelling and flying. It's been a sociable week generally speaking. Our evening out on Wednesday involved the first open fire of winter, lots of groovy 60s hits from the singer and even dancing. All good fun. In the spirit of laying the tracks, even if you don't know when you can afford the train, we've even bought NY passes for our next adventure in the USA. Nope. No firm plans, flights or housesits lined up. But those are minor details. Definitely want to be in NYC sometime over the next 12 months so planning can't hurt a bit. Well, that is us for now. Our rainy, gray, sofa-day shall continue with some dedicated movie watching and a bit more brushing up on my getting-about French.
