Days 605-607, 28-30 Jan '16, Aigre Outing. Nope. Don't even ask. The pronunciation of this town is beyond me and seems to differ no matter who you talk to. That being said, we drove through it on one of our other excursions and it's only 20 minutes from home - so when we felt like a change of scenery on Friday (and a Euromillions ticket) we hit upon Aigre. Thankfully someone has won the jackpot. Two someones - one in France and one in Ireland and they received €66 each. That's A$100 million roughly. Yikes. I say thankfully someone's won it, because the jackpot was impossible to ignore... now it's easy to ignore and will save us a few euros a week not having to get a ticket. With our latest ticket safely stowed, we enjoyed mooching about Aigre in the cold, fog and mist. It was, most definitely, a mooching day... just like walking around inside a vintage postcard with soft focus lenses on one's eyeballs. We stopped for a coffee at the Cafe du Commerce which definitely looked better from the outside - nice hot coffee on a grimy day - but most a "geezer bar" inside. Aigre has waterways/rivers/creeks and whatnot running around, through and under it - that was the highlight for us - the fog, the scenery, and the lack of guardrails. Literally - there were street signs indicating 'dead end' and then a picture of a car falling off a pier. Well not quite... but you'd certainly want to be in a James Bond-esque submersible if you decided to ignore the signs (check out the album for an example). Off for a Sunday roast tomorrow with local friends. Lamb. Baaaa!
