Okay well we actually made it . Got on a plane and everything. It took 3 days to get to our placement - 3 days !1 India is far too big ,accept our village, there is nothing but dusty roads and smelly cow s*** everywhere. Its pretty much the same all over the south , although one weekend we did visit Kerala and that was way more green and interesting.During that 3 day trip we spent 11 hours on a bus, had ice cream, went on a riverboat ride in the frezzing moutain morning air, then went on a 3 hours trekk to this massive hill only saw a bore , a dear and some monkeys even though elephants and tigers live in the trekk area. Then we had some free time to buy clothes that are "culturally correct" and buy that time we had also run out of clean ones. Erm... in the evening we saw some crazy Kerilan dancing which is the strangest thing Ive ever seen. I thought is was really interesting but charlotte fell asleep and teaching projects abroad head, Pabbu, listened to his ipod throughout the performance. The next day I was sick and couldnt go elephant riding but Charlotte went and had a blast.
We have spent most of our time travelling so far as we've been up and down and in and out of the state. As far as inidan transport goes, it sucks. Im sure that if the rickety bus journeys dont kill me then corssing the road will. They have no rules or regulations at all its absolutly horrific especially when travelling at night going up a mountain and your not sure if youll see tomorrow.
The people are also horrific, when we're out and about the whole town stops to have a nice long glare at us especially charlotte and by the way incase you havent already guessed, charlotte is white and I am black. The Indian people find this "contrast" completly insnae and just cant get their heads round the idea that white people actually exist. They eat with their hands which is ok by me but charlotte hates it althought we have both full heartedly agreed that whipping your bum with your left hand or any hand is foul and should be against the law. Another thing that should be agaist the law in this backwards place is child beating. To my disgust last night I witnessed the horror of failing in one class. If you fail just one class thats a beating for sure fail them all and youll never walk again. These poor kids have no family or things to call their own, they only family they have beat them no matter what age. Not only that but these poor kids have no freedom of releigion they are forced to expereicne "morning and evening devotion", bible readings and praying 4 times a day.
So far I do not think much of India , although Ive herad the north is less strict. Cant wait to stop fake smiling at the warden and get out of the home, the kids are so annoying. If theres one thing ive learnt its that I dont want kids .... keep you posted
