Hola amigos y amigas!!
Thought that I better take the time to actually write something seeing as I sent the link out to some of you guys. Not to do it at least once would be rude and so here is my once ;o)
So observations so far. Well as already posted by my better half, Venezuela has proved to be something of an odd place so far. Odd doesn't mean bad though, just odd. So far It's not what I'd call a traveller friendly place, but the path of the traveller can always be made easier with the help of good people. Those good people in our case were the lovely owners of our first hotel, Ewen and Lucia. I can't say my Spanish improved much in Margarita, although I now know how to order two different kinds of beer. However, they certainly looked after us and gave us a few pointers about how best to navigate the oddities of this land. One pointer to future travellers of this land, flight times merely appear to be approximate indications of when a flight might leave and nothing to do with an actual time. Still in a land that Ewen proclaimed that a "job is optional", this is something you have to sit back and simply go hmmm.
Outside of that, Isla Margarita? Looks a little like the backdrop of Jurassic Park with lush green forest covering much of the island, with a rain forest kind of weather system. I.e it rained everyday and had blistering heat in-between. No complaints though, outside of the fact that the heavy rain appears to have compromised the beauty of the beaches somewhat. Still I'm sure that Los Rocos will more than make up for that :o).
As for food, for those of you interested? Been tucking into some traditional Venezuelan brekkie which consists of two small pancake looking discs of maize, a bit of fish or meat and some local cheese. Might not sound up to much, but I've been feeling it. Outside of brekkie, other food highlights nice Paella and some BBQ'd parrot fish. Nice!!
Now time for the original cityboy to go jungle trekking in Canima. Should be interesting.
Right I'm out.
