Well hello all! First blog coming up, not sure what to write really so here goes.... After what felt like days travelling, we got to Isla margarita yesterday afternoon. This is our home for 4 days and somewhere I feel we can totally relax. It's quite touristy but for locals, there aren't many europeans. Our lack of Spanish will be a big problem I fear! It's all well and good having had the lessons and understanding the teacher and Elaine but this is another level!
Today we are on the beach, typical Brits - it's cloudy and windy but here we are steadfastly lying on the sun loungers. It's warm though, certainly not missing the cold weather!
Our hotel is nice, a Turkish man with his Venezuelan wife moved here 7 months ago from England, would you believe that their little girl was born in Basingstoke? They have re-opened an old hotel so it's a bit rough round the edges but very nice. It will be a labour of love but will be great when they have finished.
They have had torrential rain here the last month so a lot of bookings have been cancelled, so it's quieter than we expected. For those of you who know me and my bad weather luck, it will come as no surprise to you that it has rained every day since we arrived!!
Looks like the sun's on its way now so best go and get in position to catch those rays! That didn't last long before the rain came! We made up for it with paella and beer so it's not all bad!
We can't believe how expensive it is in this country and there is no way of getting cash out of ATM's (useful, not!) plus all credit card machines on the island have been down for a week as they had so much rain, so we have to pay cash, which is running low, not sure what happens then? Oh well, patience is improving and it's all part of the "experience"!
