Koh Muk (Mook)
The speedboat appeared in the bay promptly at 0830am. We (royal) carried our luggage over the sand, waded over to the boat and jumped aboard. We knelt on the bench in the bow taking in the scenery as we sped past other islands and the vertical columns of limestone the region is famous for.
After stopping briefly at Koh Ngai (Hai) we arrived at Sivalai at 10 - a small resort of lovely bungalows on a sandy point shaded by coconut trees. Lots of empty white deck chairs, white sandy beach all the way round and other islands in the distance in every direction. No other resorts for miles. We had a Eureka moment! www.kohmooksivalai.com
We were immediately struck down with lethargy and crashed by the pool until lunch. Then crashed outside our villa until mid afternoon. We borrowed bikes and cycled around our end of the island. There was a small fishing settlement with a rudimentary lifestyle.....the dinner alternatives were not looking good, however there was a shack selling essentials and beer. Everyone was friendly and said hello.
Back in Sivalai we contemplated our route down south via some more remote islands, heading for Langkawi across the border in Malaysia. Sleep ensued again…..
We had dinner at the restaurant at the end of the spit. Everything was winding down by 930. Guess no partying here then. Walked back to the hut trying keeping an eye out for the crabs which appeared from their burrows at night.
