Longest day of driving so far - 370kms. Highlights of the 5.5hr drive up north were: * Hitting Scotland after only 30mins on the road (didn't know we were that close!) * Another ring road (this time around Glasgow) * Seeing where Dave (Chris' PM at work) grew up (didn't need to see the good parts of Glasgow to realise this was a rough part) * Eating our cheese sandwiches in the Maccas carpark (so we could use their toilets and baby changing facilities) * So...

205kms today up to the Lakes District. We'd heard from many people that it was beautiful but we really couldn't have imagined just how spectacular it is. The drive up was stunning with rolling green hills and then when we got to the district we were surprised by just how tall the hills got, some with running waterfalls coming down through the joins, others with stone walls all over them for the farmers, which must have dated back hundreds of years. Quick entry as our day started in Chester. We didn't have much time so quickly drive into the city centre to look at the famous Tudor-style buildings (think shakespeare's black/brown and white) on top of Victorian buildings (red brick). Was a shame we didn't get to spend any longer here because it really was quite nice (and surprisingly close to northern wales!)
