After a day learning about Cambodias past, we decided it was time for a change so headed to the orphanage the following day. We stocked up on 20kg of rice, school supplies and most importantly, a football!! On arriving at the Lighthouse Orphanage (after our tuk-tuk driver got a bit lost!) we were pleasantly surprised at how good the place looked and were shown around by very enthusiastic children who spoke very good English. We played a very closely contested game of football with the younger ones where some foul play may have occured but in the end mine and Zoe's team ended up winning! After saying our goodbyes and many a high five we headed to the market for our favourite past-time-shopping!! I personally spent far too much money and we struggled getting all our purchases in the tuk-tuk! Headed to a restaurant for a relaxing (and ver hot!) curry and watched "The killing Fields". Early night was had as heading to Sihnoukville tomorrow.
After catching a relatively quick and very cheap bus we checked into GST 3 guesthouse right by the beach in Sihnoukville. This was where we headed for veggie burgers and a few cocktails! The night was spent drinking and dancing (sensibly and carefully parents don't worry!) on the beach. Needless to say the next day was given to lying in bed! Fortunately the next day we managed to drag ourselves to the beach where the day was spent soaking up the rays and the night slightly reminiscent of a few nights before! However, this time we managed to spend our hungover day on the beach then booked our bus to Siem Reap for the following day.
After a long bus journey which included a quick change at Phnom Penh where a man asked for my name and said we'd get free pickup in Siem Reap! we arrived. Now none of us expected that there would be a banner with my name (actually spelt perfectly) on and two men with tuk-tuks who took us to #10 lodge questhouse. After spending the night here and going to dinner at Backpackers hostel we decided to change hotels in the morning, this was much nicer and cheaper! After checking in we headed to the quadbiking place to see how much it was and where it would take us, we decided it sounded awesome so went back at 2pm and after a few instructions (like avoid cows!) we headed off into the countryside with our two guides. We cruised around stopping to take photos then Lucy broke down, so I stopped then my bike wouldn't start and there were Cambodians trying to talk to us and we didn't have a clue what they were saying. Luckily one of our guides realised our predicament and sorted us out! After about two hours we went back to base for a well earnt water and cool towel. This was quickly followed by a shower (dusty countryside + fast quadbikes = very dirty!) and a quick trip to Helping Hands massage. This was amazing and I can safely say we all deserved it after such a hard day!!!
The follwing day we decided to head to the famous Temples of Angkor just outside Siem Reap. These were pretty impressive and our driver waited for us at all the major sights such as Baphoun and the one where they filmed Tomb Raider!! The day was topped off with a visit to the world's largest religious building, Angkor Wat which was awesome with its massive moat. However, the greatest part of the day came at the end when Grace tried to touvh a wild monkey and it ran at her with its mouth wide open and teeth showing. Needless to say we all legged it back to the tuk-tuk! The night was spent drinking margharitas and getting free t-shirts.
