Hola All,
While we were in Evora (about 10 days ago) we discovered the local supermarket was selling some wine for just 56 cents a bottle (about £0.45) We were a bit dubious at first, after some rather nasty wine from a carton the week before But we decided to risk the 56 cents of our budget on a bottle to see if it was Drinkable, and to our delight it was not half bad, so the next night after out meal out in Evora we headed to the "SuperMercado" on our way back to the campsite, and bought every bottle they had, which luckily for us was only 6, but that was enough was we had a long way to walk.
Once we were in Praia da Luz we were thrilled when we stumbled across the same supermarket, so again we headed in to see if they had any in stock, We were gutted to discover that they only had the Red - which was a bit nasty. As luck would have it we visited again later in our stay and they had the white in stock, so we filled the trolley with all 13 bottles That we could reach of the shelf, which cost us all of about £6.00- What a Result !!!
Little did we know that the next day would be Kazzie's worst day so far. We were woken up at all hours through the night by the load of Australian lads that were camping behind our tent, so we grumpily got up early and headed in to Lagos after half a nights sleep, and everything started off really well, We did a little shopping, Kazzie treated herself to some new sunglasses and a watch, and I got some bargain fishing hooks and a Fishing alarm. We were both pleased with our purchases and were walking around the town taking in the atmosphere, until Kazzie slipped on the Cobbles and fell over Grazing her knee and scraping her foot, she was a wreck and to top things of she managed to ruin her white trousers in the process.needless to say there were lots of teers. Later that day Kazzie had put on a clean skirt and cooked a stew for dinner, and she managed to knock a whole boiling hot bowl of it over her lap. So after yet another change of clothes This time a really nice white skirt, We had a couple of bottles of 56 cent wine we decided to go to the bar and drink as much Bacardi and coke as we could while challenging some Portuguese school kids to playing Doubles at pool. We thrashed them hands down even though we were finding it hard to stand up. The rest of the night was spent being very ill and Kazzie managing to get Bacardi & Coke and sick all over her lovely white skirt. We spent the entire next day sleeping and watching films on the laptop, we did head to the bar for a burger and chips for lunch, but we were so hung over we accidently managed to leave without paying, we only realized when the woman came chasing down the road after us.
We haven't mentioned in our previous blogs about the Eagles that we have been seeing everywhere and the huge Stalks that we've seen in Spain and Portugal. Even in Titisee and all the way through Italy and the south of France we have been seeing and amazing quantity of birds of prey, from red kites to buzzards and even eagles. More recently we have seen loads of great big storks that make herons look tiny! Yesterday we saw a flock of over 40 of them circling around a wind farm. We have been really impressed with the number of wind turbines we have seen here in Spain in both the north and south of the country there are thousands upon thousands of them, they really seem to be making a huge effort over here to use renewable energy sources.
Cadiz was a lovely place with vast beaches stretching for kilometers at a time, However we only stayed there for two nights and other than going on a few walks along the coast and swimming in the pool there wasn't really too much to do, so we decided to head off to our next destination.
We stopped off in Gibraltar on our way from Cadiz to where we would be staying between Marbella and Malaga. We had expected to be able to just rock up there (No pun intended)have a bite to eat and ride the cable car up the rock, but it wasn't quite as simple as we had hoped. We spent 1.5 hours going nowhere in a queue at the border (which we thought was very British). Being bored in the queue we decided we would kill the time by playing a prank on Karen's mum, We called her up to tell here we were back in Britain, She was delighted to hear the unexpected news, and wanted to know when we would be back at her house so she could put the kettle on! LOL sorry Joy! Once we were finally over the border it was fantastic, They had Proper British Traffic lights, and Bobbies on the beat and directing traffic. We saw a bill board on the way in saying that there was a Morrison's, which was really exciting; it meant we could stock up on gravy and HP Source and even Branson pickle and Jars of curry source!!!!!! No disrespect to Aldi and Lidl but after nearly two months their selection is a bit uninspiring. We had great fun parking in a multi story car park, There was a height restriction of 2m and with our top box on we were pushing it, the car park was virtually full and we had to go up about 10 stories to find a space all the while trying to avoid driving under any of the low hanging lights or signs with the roof box all but scraping the ceiling - it was quite an experience!
By this time it was about 2pm and we were starving so we flew down the stairs of the multi storey and within seconds had sat down and ordered X2 Large Cod and Chips with Curry source, and Kazzie had some bread and butter to make a chip butte with (it's a northern thing)!Once we had finished eating we could hardly move, so we slowly headed down the main high street to find the cable cars to get a trip to the top of the rock, we soaked up the atmosphere of the town, and the whole Britishness of the place, they had all the same high street shops that we hadn't seen since we left England but unfortunately they were all closed due to a powercut! We decided that the cable car was too expensive to bother with and we would rather go in search of Morrison's, So that just what we did. We were rather miffed when we got there and saw the price of petrol was £0.889 / liter, as we had only just filled the tank, but we soon didn't feel so bad as the pumps weren't working anyway due to the power cut!
Gibraltar seemed to have a great sense of pride and Patriotism, with Statues and plaques everywhere, Itmade us both feel proud to be British. Its just like a Mini Britain but with out the immigrants or the rubbish weather.
We are currently Staying near Fuengirola, and plan to be here for about 4 days or so and plan to head to Granada on the 27th, We have Bought some tickets to see a bullfight in a small town close by called Atarfe On that day. Which is also my brothers Birthday Happy Birthday Jack!!!!!!
