Ola- well we are in the ALGARVE- Pria Da Luz. Yes- where Madeline went missing from, No we haven't seen her but we're keeping our eyes open just encase. Its amazing how many English families are here with their young children- my thinking is that they are secretly hoping their child will go "Missing" too. Tip for the future Baz & Sarah when Bean's doing your head in- take him/her to Pria Da Luz! You can borrow our Renault McCann..Oops we meant Megane, apparently if you have one it helps with disappearing act.
Anyway enough with the bad jokes- seriously, its easy to see how someone could make a quick exit from here to anywhere in the world but now its got to be one of the safest places.
Well this is our third day here and its spanking! We left Nazrae (as the campsite was s***e) and headed to Evora (which is Central Portugal). Evora is a walled city and a world heritage site and famous for its Bone Chapel. Which of course we visited. The campsite wasn't great- toilets very smelly- however there were ENGLISH people! We haven't got to speak too many of them since we started our trip. There were two bikers from Wolverhampton- heading to Faro for a bikers convention- very funny guys- even I couldn't tell a word they were saying- god help the Portuguese!
The bone chapel wasn't what we were expecting - it was a bit saddening and eerie looking at the bones of thousands of people. It was like something out of an Indian Jones Movie. Apparently when they built it they just dug up all the graves in the village at the time and used them to construct it. There was a marble plaque above the door that the saying translated into "Here lye our bones, waiting for your bones"- The translation of what the chapel was used for was very strange- it said something about the chapel being used so that people could recognize cleansing of the body or something like that- pretty weird and didn't really make to much sense. Anyway- it was a really nice place- full of traditional streets and had lots of character and even some remains of an old Roman forum- we ate a limo Calippo whilst admiring it- these are our new favorite ice lollies! Juicy licious.
On the same day (14th July 2008) we ventured into town for an evening meal as it has now been 1 year since we got engaged! And 7 years 5 months since we started going out. Doesn't time fly when your Having fun! Yes Martin deserves a chuffing medal. Blah blah Blah. Martin had a traditional Portuguese dish of Pork & Clams- no he didn't have a dodgy tummy the day after- which was pretty impressive. He says "It was Lovely". I of course had pig and chips…lol- well wouldn't want to go and spoil the habit of a life time! It did have a traditional Portuguese Apple type jelly thing with it which was delightful.
We found a cheap shop run by a Chinese, Portuguese man- Martin brought himself a cheap hair trimmer- Thank god, cause I thought he was beginning to look like Cousin it.
Anyway- the morning after we left to come to the ALGARVE. (Putting it in caps just to emphasize the fact that we are in the beautiful, hot, stunning, ALGARVE- and your at HOME or even worse at WORK!!)Campsite is a lot better than the last dive- however for some reason the Portuguese don't use loo seats???? What's the deal with that!!?? We spent today on the beech- topped up the old tan and started reading a new book. Lord of the Flies- I can remember picking this book at the Library and brining it home when Iwas very young- only to be told by my Mum & Dad that I wasn't allowed to read it. So now I'm a big girl- thought id give it a go. Its nice to have time to read and Chillax. P.s Martin made us some well wicked sun loungers from the sand today- they were good for the 5 mins they lasted before the sea came in and washed them away!
Ohhh yesterday- we went shopping and had a brunch of a fry up- the first one of the trip it was spanking- Bacon, Mushrooms, eggs. Yum Yum. Made us very happy. P.s Mummy Heather you'll be glad to know that Mushrooms are eaten every day- without fail so far!
We originally booked the campsite for 3 nights, tonight would be our last but as we like it so much we have decided to stay probably for another 3 nights before we head further down the coast and back to Spain. Its weird to think that basically when we leave Portugal we will be on our return leg of the trip, its scary thinking back to everything we have done. St Tropez feels like an age ago, when really it was only a couple of weeks back. Anyway- we're going to keep enjoying it and not dwell to much on the idea of coming home and looking for jobs/ houses etc. However, its pretty exciting to- our little Niece/NEPHEW (its so a boy) is due at the beginning of December- so lots of exciting stuff will be going on when we get home. Really can't wait for it to happen- I've put the scan picture on the album as it was done yesterday- she's nearly 20 weeks- more than half way through! And if like me you your wondering- is that a leg- or one blessed child. "Apparently" it's a leg!
Anyway- lots of love to everyone. Hopefully next time we'll have something exciting to tell you
xx
