After getting all set up at our cabin, the girls decided to chill a bit. Logan, Jayme, Nana, Grandpa and Gary all took off to have a "look around." We went and pet the mini pony and then drove down to see the buffalo herd. Grandpa kept telling Logan he was going to jump the fence and go run with the herd.
After a bit of buffalo watching we headed to the local pizza parlor/camping registry/gift shop to hang out. Since our pizza was going to take over 30 minutes we headed back to the park to check out Checkerboard Mesa.
This is a spot about 1/2 a mile into Zion from the Eastern entrance. It is a large mountain that has horizonal streaks/stipes from the eons of cediment but also has vertial groves from expansion and water drainage. So, it looks like a checkerboard.
Once done there, and as the sun set, we went back to collect our pizza and then settle in for the night and plan out our activities for the next day.
