Day 4 - by Brett Campbell.
Woke up early today, and although this should be a good thing as we're on the Gold Coast, it was a bit of a struggle due to the toddler/devil child running the beep test on the floor above us until late last night. James and Logan had decided to stay with Nan & Pa at their resort for one final night, so we went over there for breaky whilst enjoying the ocean views as we had another surprise for the boys. We told them that we were spending the day clothes shopping for Laura, which shows you how gullible they are, as I'd rather rip every hair from a place where the sun don't shine than shop for women's clothes all day! I was talking about my nasal passage, what were you thinking? We took the short trip out to the theme parks with Movieworld the choice for today. As the boys had recently been out this way, we decided to go a different route for two reasons: 1. To keep the surprise, and 2. Because Tommy told us to go a strange way. Tommy is the name of our GPS. I had to change it to a male voice in order to protect my relationship with Siri.
We head up to the gates of Movieworld, and I was feeling pretty special as the lady behind the counter wanted my picture! Just as I was ready to sign an autograph for her, I realised that this is now part of the entry process and everyone was having their photo taken. In we go and the kids thought they were in heaven, especially Porter as he's hugely in to superheroes ATM (for the seniors reading this ATM stands for At The Moment, not for something that you get cash from. Keep up my BFF's). We had a look at a few things, and headed straight to Hollywood Stunt Driver. A great combination of humour, stunt driving, FMX, and a host that would be allowed to stay at the previously mentioned caravan park. It was awesome! I offered my services (as a driver) if they needed a fill in, although Laura would be better qualified. We headed over to the kiddy area, so Laura and Nana could "accompany" the kids on the kiddy coaster. Heard more screams from the adults. Headed over to the Wild Wild West to go on the log ride. As much as I enjoy gittin' jiggy with Will Smith's music, the employees there deserve an award for having to listen to the same song over and over and over.... and over. The log ride was great. A bit scary, but you got splashed enough that you could blame the wet pants on the ride and not your bladders reaction to fear. Logan got that scared he may have left a little log of his own. After that we did some shopping and wandering, and the kids loved spotting all the superheroes which were all very impressive. Batman played the part very well, Porter is still not sure if he was 'real' or not. The Joker was great, and what a job that would be, being sarcastically rude to people all day long. I could do that. I wanted to heckle The Flash ("Do you finish everything in a flash?") and The Green Lantern ("Show us ya ring"), but decided against it. And the female characters; Supergirl was, um, super; Wonder Woman made we wonder a great many things; and Catwoman, me-ow. Went and watched a 4D movie that scared the bejesus out of Porter. Not sure what scared him more, the fourth dimension or how much Nana was jumping around. Street parade time, have I mentioned the female characters? Super wonder meow. Laura piked on going on the grown up rides coz she'd "just had a coffee"and being the supportive husband that I am, I did what she did. Even though I was eager and ready to go. Honest. Last ride of the day was the Justice League ride. A simple train style ride where you need to shoot as many targets with lasers as possible. Laura shot the most. Easily. Which was a bit concerning really. Her secret? Something to do with my face on the targets. I took it as a compliment, initially.
After we left the theme park the kids got to have a play on the beach; we ordered fish and chips from a place that somehow changed its name between the phone order and the pickup, which made it a challenge to find; and Laura got "locked in" a cool room at a bottle shop (like we haven't heard that one before)! It was another great day.
