I suddenly understand why I've been sticking to the bottled water, and also have recognized that drinking the obnoxiously large bottles of beer is not such a good idea. Two bad mornings this week - and I might have to blame those at least partially on the beer. Otherwise to blame? Eating huge quantities of bread, bagged candies and approximately 2 servings of fruit and veggies a week. Not so nutritious.
But here's why. We made it into the American Embassy grounds (read: huge compound with pristine beautiful buildings) a couple times, and went to their ridiculously amazing store. Like, a full-on mini supermarket filled with North American stuff that you can't seem to get anywhere else in Yaounde (Pep bars anyone?). Since the Amuuuuricans are cool and like to meet new people that they can converse with easily, we have been given a figurative all-access pass. And get to take rides in bullet-proof SUVs.
So if we were exclusively eating only Cameroonian food, we would definitely start to whittle away. I'd say we'd be at about 1000 calories a day, including beer. Damn Americans! :)
Anyways!
We are way better with the local ways now. Except I still cannot fathom how offices open at 7:30 AM. It is absurd. Even leisurely activities are early. So Caitlin and I are late to come to office but late to leave too. We figure it all works out...
Oh and on the mosquito report: zero bites in the last few days. This is huge progress.
