I must start off by saying we may have under estimated this ride a tiny bit ... Today was tough.
We started our day with a full Scottish breakfast which included the usual breakfast items plus some haggis which we declined. We then made some last minute tweaks to our bikes and made our way 1 down the road the the furthest northern point in the UK. Our picture was taken with the infamous sign, then we were off back up the road for the next 70 miles.
The weather wasnt so good in John O'Groats very windy and a tiny bit wet. However the sun started to come out later on in the day. This obviously meant for the good weather we had to be punished elsewhere in the way of wind. For 70 miles we were faced head on by 30 mph winds ALL the way, it was horrendous. Not only going up hills but travelling down steep hill at 7 mph is not fun at all.
Travelling through Wick then all the down the coastal road we finally made in to Grolspie in which we would stay for the night. It's a small village which a very traditional Scottish feel and our B&B is really nice (which is amazing after today's ride).
This evening we went and had dinner at The Trawler which is a fish and chip restaurant to my disgust after having haddock last night, however it was our only choice. I chose the sausage and chips and dad had haddock fish cakes. The meals were huuuuuge and we both couldn't stomach it all!!
So before I fall asleep I shall end this post by rounding up today as a total nightmare but it's all part of the fun!!!! Looking forward to a less windy day tommorrow. Goodnight.
