Hiya once again. We're flying over to New Zealand tomorrow morning (Saturday) so this will be our last Fiji update. As we've already mentioned we've spent the last week island hopping around the Yasawa Islands which are a little group of islands situated north of Viti Levu which is the mainland, as if you didnt already know that! Its fair to say it was an experience. Our first destination was on the most northerly island which was a 5 hour catamaran trip away from the mainland, boring! We arrived to hurricane force winds (slight exaggeration) and not a lot of sunshine, therefore we did what any true British tourist would do faced with such a situation... we played Monopoly. Gem won, Phil sulked alot but claims he only lost because it was an American version of Monopoly and he couldnt get used to the conversion rate. On the plus side, instead of being given bunkbeds in a dorm as expected we were given our own private Bure which is a little house made out of straw. Our second destination was White Sandy Beach resort and it did exactly what is said on the tin, again we got our own Bure and although the wind had dropped it was still overcast. Despite this a whole group of us got duped into paying to go on a sunset cruise which would 'guarantee us a perfect sunset photo opportunity'. It had the added incentive of half price drinks. Did we see a sunset - of course not. Did we get drunk - of course we did. The cruise was followed by learning how to do Fijian dances, Gem loved it, Phil felt like a berk but the drink definitely improved his rhythm. After a couple of nights at White Sandy Beach we moved to a resort on the same island simply because it had a swimming pool which meant we might have a chance of staying sand free for 24 hours and some of our friends were staying there. Phil definitely won the somersault into the pool competition, according to Phil anyway. The next 2 days were spent on 2 of the smaller islands, Sunset Waya and Kuata Eco Resort which had the usual mix of sand and sunshine so we definitely dont look like milk bottles anymore. We sailed past Bounty Island or for those of you who watch too much bad TV may know it as Celebrity Love Island which was very pretty but looked fairly similar to all the other islands. We had a great time but we're definitely glad to be back on the mainland, Phils had enough of being on 24 hour spider watch. We're just sat in an Internet Cafe in Nadi, Gems going to drag me round the shops to do some souveneir shopping then its back to the hostel to pack our bags for the flight tomorrow. Vinaka (Thankyou in Fijian) for all the messages, keep sending them and yes mum we are getting your emails. Speak to u all soon xxx
