G'day from Australia everybody!!! We arrived in Melbourne on Tuesday and we love it here. The city is fantastic, theres more shops than you can shake a stick at so Gems in heaven and the sun is shining so i'm happy. We can't believe advent has started, it was 29 degrees here yesterday and thats just not very Christmassey is it?! We've met a great crowd of people in our hostel and we've had a couple of good nights out, in fact I had a very successful night out on Wednesday. The bar in our hostel was having a drinking games night with with 3 prizes up for grabs and guess what...I won, not one of the prizes but two!!! Am I great or what. So I got a day trip to Penguin Island and a day trip along the Great Ocean Road for free, cashback!! Gem had to pay full price but thats her fault for not being as good at drinking as me! Actually despite my drinking game heroics Gem was a bit annoyed with me because I didn't pick the Ramsay Street tour as one of my prizes. As a compromise I've agreed to go to the Neighbours quiz night on Monday which is hosted by Harold Bishop and Toadie and occasionally features Karl Kennedys band. I'm thrilled at the prospect.
After a few days sightseeing and jobhunting around Melbourne we decided to go on our 'free' penguin island trip yesterday. It was AMAZING!!! Seeing the penguins was the grand finale and there were loads of stops along the way. First stop was a winery for some wine tasting, sounds good doesn't it - it wasn't. It would be fair to say that drinking the drip tray from a George Foreman grill would have been better than drinking the wine we were given. It was horrific! They even tried to sell us the muck we were sampling, idiots! Once we had got rid of the taste we headed off to our next stop, a koala and kangaroo sanctuary. This was ace, there were loads of very sleepy koalas sitting around and we got to feed the kangaroos, excellent fun! The kangaroos were brilliant but they could have done with a wash, they were a little bit smelly. After a couple more stops for dinner and a walk along the beach we made it to the penguin beach. We sat on the beach and waited for the sun to set. Once it had gone dark hundreds of penguins began emerging from the sea, waddled past up the beach and climbed up into the surrounding hills to find a bed for the night. It was fantastic, loads of them kept making it half way up the beach before getting scared and zooming back into the sea, very funny!
Its Saturday now and the job hunt continues, Gems got a trial night as a bargirl in a pub tonight and I'm going to meet a bloke about getting some tennis coaching work in the next couple of days so things are looking pretty good for us right now. Hope the weather is as nice at home as it is here!! Byebye x
