Bet you weren't expecting another journal entry so quick were you? Well to be honest neither was I but Gems gone shopping and writing a journal was the only excuse I could think of to avoid going with her.
We've actually had a fairly action packed few days. Being the internationally acclaimed masterminds that we are we decided to have a crack at our local pub quiz on Monday. Despite Gems knowledge of all things celebrity and my knowledge of all things we found ourselves lurking near the bottom heading into the final round. However, never underestimate the power of the Derry Weldon partnership. I'm not going to bore you with how we did it but thats right... we ended up winning the quiz by a country mile. Our prize = A full days adventure sports down by the river in Brisbane.
So that was the next days activities sorted. We trotted down to the river and the good times flowed. First off, much to Gems dismay, was rollerblading. 3 tantrums and 1 bruised bottom later we rolled back into the activity centre and, much to Gems delight, handed the rollerblades back. Next came kayaking. We've done loads of it on our trip so we're getting pretty good at it by now. It was a reallly nice trip, we tootled up the river, then we tootled back. There were a couple of other people kayaking with us who were very friendly although one of them kept asking me the same question "How are you finding the pound out here?". It got a little tedious.
After kayaking was abseiling. Abseiling hurts. I got rope burn on my bum, hip and hands which slightly tainted my fun. Gem loved it and didn't panic even a little bit. Our last activity of the day was rock climbing which is pretty much the opposite of abseiling. Unfortunately due to a combination of the rock being very hot and me having the pain threshold of a 3 year old I really struggled. In fact at one point I was by far the worst climber in our little group. Gem was fantastic and shot up the rock super fast. Her only problem was a refusal to listen to the guides instructions on how to get up the rock, oh and we also discovered that Gem hasn't quite mastered the difference between left and right! It was a brilliant day but we were so tired by the end of it, early nights all round!!
Poor old Gem had to be up first thing but she didnt mind because she was on her way to the airport to meet her best friend in the whole entire world...Laura!!! When they got back to the hostel Laura's hyper giddiness woke everyone up and everyone got to know Laura's name very quickly.
Laura's excitement didn't last too long and the jet lag set in. Being the slave drivers that we are we dragged her round Brisbane and took her to the little man made beach but due to Laura needing matchsticks to keep her eyes open and a some nasty drizzly weather we didn't stay out long. The rest of the day was spent doing very little.
The following day was a different kettle of fish. We set off super early to make sure we were first in queue at Wet'nWild which is a big water park. We had an amazing day and I think we must have gone on every ride 5 times. It was baking hot and sunburn got the better of certain people..Laura. Yet again by the end of the day we were shattered and once we got back to the hostel I couldn't even keep myself awake to witness Laura dying Gems hair and even turning it a nasty shade of green (Laura refuses to accept any responsibility but it turned out OK after some heavy duty shampooing).
Thats all the excitement for now. We're just waiting for a bus to take us up to Rainbow Beach which is the starting point for our Fraser Island trip.
Speak to you soon.
Love Phil, Gem and Laura xxxxx
