Brisbane.
Brisbane was really cool I liked it. We stayed in a hostel called X base or
Palace, we managed to get upgraded which was nice and we were in the 'sanctory'
which is a girls only dorm that is clean which is nice plus we have a massive TV.
On our first day there we just had an explore we probably walked for about 5 hours
and saw the sights of Brisbane. We walked along the river to the Streets Beach,
through the parks along to the Botanical gardens and through the brisbane university.
We met up with Cath and Aileen, girls who we had met at surf camp and we had
dinner with them. We went to Sizzler again, it is ammmazing!!We had a bit of a
nightmare getting to Sizzler. We looked on the website and found out where it
is but when we got there we couldnt see it anywhere, we asked somebody and apparently
it had been closed down for2 years.. we were gutted but then Cath said there
was a sizzler by her aunties but it was a train ride away, we were very much in
the mood for it by then we so happily caught the train only to find when we were
on the train that it closes at 9, by this time is was 8.30.. we were literally
running for the resturant which was pretty funny, we were all very hyper and
chatting to everyone. It was a funny evening. We made eit there and we were the
only ones in the resturant. We pigged out on the buffett and then all felt bloated.
The next day me Laura and Lucy (another gal from surf camp)all cruised on down
to the streets beach. It was aawesome, its basically a man made lagoon on the side
of the brisbane river. It is sandy and really nice and clean. We went for a few
swims in the lagoon and then just chilled out on the beach. We walked back to the
hostel and got ready for a night out in brisbane but by 9pm I was feeling
awful, I have caught a cold,i think its all catching up with me the lack of sleep
and constant partying etc. We decided that we were not going to go out in the
end and we just chilled out in our sanctory with Lucy and the big private TV room
we had.
The next day we went to Lone Pine Koala Sanctory, it was about a 25 minute bus
journey and in the middle of nowhere. When we arrived it started pouring down
which was a nightmare but only lasted about 10 minutes before it stopped and got
very hot. We are now getting into the tropical climates and its becoming more
and more obvious as we go up the coast. The lone pine was excellent. We were
able to get really close to Koalas and feed kangeroos - there must have been
about 100 kangeroos in the enclosure but it was really really big. It was
really cool.A woman gave us some of her left over kangeroo feed so we each had a
bag. We stayed in the Kangeroo & Emu enclosure for about an hour before moving on.
We watched a bird of prey show which was cool, the birds were massive and they
also flew really really close to your head - slightly scary!! After the bird
of prey show we went to feed the parrots, there were hundreds of them and the
keeper gave you a tray on a stick filled with poridge which they all flew to.We
were laughing at an old man who had a bird land on his head then one came
and landed on Lillies head, I luckily had the camera ready so got a really good
picture.
We left Brisbane on Monday at 6.15am, nice and early and we made our wway to
Noosa which is where I am now. It look about 4 hours with the stops that the bus
made. The weather was awful, it was like being back in England. Rubbish. Once
we got to Noosa we didnt know where we were going and noone around seemed to know
either. we tried to find a number on the internet but there was no number advertised.
We found this weird and in the end jumped on a bus to Elizabeth street, we
asked the bus driver if he knew where it was and he said he did. He lied and he
ended up dropping us off in the middle of Noosaville saying its that way somewhere.
We walked for about 40minutes with our back packs on.On this particular day my
cold was awful, i felt like death. We had no idea where we were going and we were
asking countless people and after about our 20th attempt a man directed us here.
We now understood why there was no number advertised because it is basically
just a house. There are no staff here, there are 3 private double bedrooms which
are beautiful and then one dorm room with 10 beds. The people here are lovely. The
man who ownns it is reallly nice and we are really enjoying our time here. We have
a really nice proper clean kitchen, oven and all.. We even have an ice maker
in our fridge, its luxury and the cheapest place we've stayed, it works out to be
12 pounds a night. Bonus!
We took advantage of the kitchen on the first night and cooked Gammon egg and fresh
potatoe wedges.. it was ammazing, we even had an avacado salad.. I have become a
bit hooked on avacados since being in Oz.
We went to the Steve Irwin Zoo/Australia Zoo yesterday, we got up at 7 as our
bus was picking us up at 8. It took about an hour to get there but it was a free
shuttle. The zoo was quite pricey, it cost about 22 pounds but it was well worth
it. We walked in and all the staff were holding animals and you could have your
photos taken with them. At 10.30 they brought the 3 elephants out and you could
help feed them which was a cool experience. We then went to the Crociseium for
the croc show. This was pretty cool but heavily over produced. The crocs are
MASSIVE!! There was a big screen showing movies on Stevo and the family. At
the Zoo there was a massive shrine to stevo with loads of messages, paintings,
gifts etc, it was really sad. The man is obviously a hero to alot of people!
We left the zoo at about 4 and then headed back to the hostel. Rob and Kerry
came over and we had a few drinks and a BBQ before heading out to a bar called
Koalas. We had fun although it felt like a school disco! We met some cool people
and the lads came back to ours and carried on the drinking. I ended up on the
floor with grazzed knees but it wass a very good night none theless. Today
we have just gone for a walk but the weather is soooo hot today its unbareable.
We are off to Rainbow Beach tomorrow but the weather forecast is rubbish..EKK.
This is very back dated!! I typed it up on my laptop but forgot to upload!! sorry
