12-20C
Sunny
After an early night last night l was awake before the alarm went off at 6.30.We headed to Pompeii this morning with a stop at the abbey of Montecassino which is perched on top of a high hill. The monastery was founded by St. Benedict about 529 and became famous for the prodigious life of it's founder.Through the ages, the abbey was looked upon as a place of holiness, culture and art for which it became renowned on a worldwide level. The mosaics and frescoes inside the monastery were very impressive. We only spent 45 minutes here so l didn't have time to visit the museum. On the road again and the next stop is Pompeii. We arrived in Pompeii around 12.30 and after lunch we went on a guided tour of the ruins. It was very exciting to see….after reading about it then finally getting to see it in real life.We saw the remains of luxurious villas, temples, theatre, forum and the red light district. The tour guide was interesting and shared lots of history with us.The weather was really hot so l was glad the tour only went for 90 minutes. After Pompeii we drove to Sorrento where we'll stay for two nights. It's Good Friday and there was a procession in the street which we just missed out on seeing as we were having dinner (Italian sausage and mashed potato).
