It was 5:30 in the morning and absolutly too early to be awake when you're on holiday. Our friends that we left behind in Switzerland were going to bed now and we were already up ^^ It's funny to say good morning when they say good night.
After an hours drive with the shuttle bus we arrived at the airport. At first we didn't really know where to check in cause we only had a flight confirmation and not a ticket. By the staff we got sent to various places but it was never the right one. We had to put our luggage through a safetyscanner. Of corse we had to open Chantal's backpack because of her powerbank (btw. Fiona also had one, but they didn't notice)... It took us ages to find the powerbank in Chantal's organised backpack, which was verry messy afterwards. The staff was annoyed and started to loose their patience, so they also started looking through the rucksack. Finally we found it and could check in.
We got a bit scared because the woman was looking at our flightconfirmation for ages. Then we went through the handluggage securitythingy. We wanted to take the special stuff (that you usually need to take out; such as liquids and electronics) but they just put the bag through in a hurry. Of course they saw some liquids on the scanner and looked through our bag but didn't find anything.
After that everything went very smoothly and we arrived in bangkok after 1 and a half hours.
With the only bus we drove 1 hour to Koh San Road were we very quickli found a dormroom for 200 bath (~ 6 CHF) per person, per night. After that we had a delicious meal in a cheap restaurant where usually just thais eat and we only paid 70bath (~ 2 CHF) for two drink and a meal. Usually you pay about 200 bath for this.
Now we started to realize how horrible some people can be...
We wanted to look around the city with a tuktuk because it was only 3 pm and a we asked a friendly looking driver (also it said 'volunteer tourist police' on his shirt) what we could do and how much it would cost. He proposed to us to look at three different temples and stop by a tourist information office to (only) book a tour for the next day. For the whole trip he wanted 40 bath. Of course we thought that cheap price sounds a bit weird so he explained to us that if we book something in the tourist information office he could fill up his tuktuk with petrol for free.
Even though he told us the first stop would be a temple he drove us to the tourist information office which was about a two minutes drive.
For about an hour we talked to an employee which wanted to plan the whole rest of our trip in thailand (about 10 days) even though we said we only want a one day tour for tomorrow. In the end we didn't book anything cause he could only sell whole packages and no daytours (he only told us this at the end of our 1 hours discussion!)
We went back to our driver and told him we couldn't book anything. We asked how much the rest of the trip would cost now. He didn't really answer and started to drive. He loaded us off where we started and wanted 20 bath for nothing. He said that we could walk down the road for about 5 minutes where you apparently could see the biggest laying bhudda. We walked down the road but there was nothing interesting to see.
To cheer us up a bit we bought a delicious icecream and went back to the hostel to book a great tour for the next day.
In the evening we bought some alcoholic drinks and had a little party in our dorm (the two of us ^^).
We took a german girl with us to a bar and met loads of people from england, france, germany, america and more.
To sum up the evening:
- we ate a scorpion (chantal ate about half of it in one bite (including the legs!) and fiona had a bite of the tiny rest. The american guy who also tried one had to throw up twice but we didn't think it was that bad, you just had to chew it for ages
- Chantal's flipflop came apart
- We danced in a bar until 4 am
- We ate a spicy burger in burgerking
- and much more happend that not everyone has to know... :-)
Eventhough we don't like bangkok we had a good time that night (because we were influenced by alcohol). So it's good for partying and drinking, but thats about all.
