Thea and Lizzie's travels
Ok picking where we left off!! Well as you might have guessed we rather enjoyed the inca trail!! We chilled in Cusco for a couple of days and then headed off into the jungle! Should also mention that we moved hostels and properly landed on our feet!! We stayed in an apartment which we soon fell in love with! It was so nice, and more importantly not expensive! It also had a school just below which was funded by the apartments and the hotel. Before heading off into the jungle we also met up with Dav and Greg from school which was cool and I (lizzie) had a pint of the black stuff in the heightest Irish pub in the World - shame it was such a disapointment!! So the jungle, we had booked to go for four nights and five days, and we enjoyed ever minute! It was fantasic! We had such an awesome guide called Alvin! The first day was spent mainly driving but was still cool, stopping off on the way at some cool villages. The second day was all action!! We kicked off with a strenous bike ride- 20km i'll have you know!! We then went white water rafting which was interesting! It was just the two of us but we joined another group for the first and second day- this is where our dislike of Isrealis (sorry really cant spell and Thea is not on hand to ask!) was inbedded! Plus the group was over ten- torture!! They are the single most unlikeable nation we have ever come across- we have not met one nice one as of yet! Not only are the rude and annoying, they are so cheeky, and stink! Alvin told us how he has had more than one group in the past do a runner on him and not pay- once they jumped out of the hotel window to get away! They also made for the worst kind of people to go white water rafting with- they didnt want to get wet- one girl was even wearing jeans! So yeah interesting few hours, esp as the guides and locals dislike them as much as we do! We then took a boat to our home for the next four days- Erika lodge. We spent the afternoon simple chilling in the hamocks reading- after all we are on holiday and deserved a rest after the inca trail! The next few days little changed, we went for a walk around in the morning and rested in the afternoon! We were so lucky as we saw rare monkeys and a snake that chases you when pregnant until it bites you! I should mention that surprise surprise there is a story behind the monkeys! This certian type dont like company and consequently throw everything to hand below. We had to try and cross a bridge, the monkeys above were not so sure- everytime we got close they went mental throwing and shaking branches- comical so we sit and wait, brain of brit Thea decides to start eating her fruit- her timing never ceases to amaze me, will she ever learn!!
We also, in between resting went bird watching on a lake which soon turned into making t*** of ourseleves! We thought we would try our hand at punting the boat thing- it was a classic case of it looking easier than it was!! We both mastered the circle quickly and Thea moved on to become a pro at flatening the surrounding vegatation!! After displays of such talent, the only way to follow was to convey are great skills at fishing!! Both of us broke one line each and failed to catch a thing, but what we did how suceed to do was provide endless entertainment to the locals for the whole afternoon! We had such a good time, though we may not have over done things it was wicked, we had a fantastic guide who was also great company, we were fed once again amazingly as well!
Once back from the jungle it soon became clear that we were not going to be leaving Cusco any time soon. We got rather comfortable! Cusco was beautiful, and though very touristy had an appealing atmosphere. We also found a wicked place to eat, that sold the best coffee and chocolate cake ever- we were sold! We also met up with George from school and some of his friends and had a wicked night out with them. Cusco was also appealing as you could go out and not have to buy a single drink as every bar offered at least one free drink! So before we knew it we had passed nearly three weeks there, but three enjoyable weeks at that! When we did eventually leave we headed to Huacachina near to Ica. This was a winy place, simply an Oasis surrounded by massive dunes on all sides! It was pretty cool and here we went sand boarding and buggying. Both were so much fun, though i dont think we were naturals at sand boarding- its not all that easy! Then we headed back to Arequipa to spend our last few days together, which was strange! We had a nice few days, we went to the monastry which was really cool and some shopping for old times sake!! We also passed many an hour playing back gammon and eating crepes!! We also met Tom from school here, which was cool, seems that Peru is full of ex BGS people, cant escape them anywhere! We went for a wicked last dinner, the food was spot on and the whole evening was a perfect end to the trip, though it had far from sunk in yet that it was over! The day had come, nice and early at that, plus i had a dodge belly for a change! We said our goodbyes, and kind of kept it together. Its hard to think of it all being over and that this will be the last post card i have to write and you read, but this is the case so we would both like to thank you for following our antics (and putting up with my poor spelling- sorry!) So with lots of love from us both Lizzie and Thea xxxx
