Amy's travels
Hello all!!
So the last few days were spent mainly delivering babies!! The final count of births is 46, 20 c-section,16 of my own deliveries and 10 of the doctors!! Unfortunately I finished on rather a bad note as baby 16 only survived 20 mins!! She had heart problems, and her lungs could not inflate, so we had to place an oxygen tube through her nose- but sadly this could not save her!! The mother was also in poor health, so we have advised her not to conceive for at least 3 years!!
At the weekend I went on a final outing with the doctor and her grand daughter Ashmitha. We went to the national circus, VIP seats aswell!! It was a good night, but you can't hel.p that think it is rather cruel, for example there was this little puppy dog, who had a pretty umbrella attached to its collar whilst having to walk along on his hind legs! Then there was this elephant holding a cricket bat and whacking balls into the audience, one of which almost hit the doctor and I!!
The adventure has almost come to an end! Yesterday was the big goodbye at the hospital and it was very emotional to say the least!! The doctor has been wonderful and I have learnt so much from her!! University will be so much easier because of this experience!! The plan for my career has slightly changed as a result. The new plan is to go to Birmingham in September and complete the 3 year Bsc in midwifery and then a year in placement and then to complete 2 years at city of London university specialising in gynaecology and obstetrics!! Then I shall get the title Dr- which is rather exciting!!
Yesterday myself and 3 other volunteers endured the 12 hour train ride here!! We are currently in a net cafe waiting for some shops to open for our last minute shopping!! I received so many presents that I have to buy another bag and pay for extra luggage, however I have aa letter from the organisation explaining that i need extra luggage for my duties- so fingers crossed that they will waive the charge!!
My flight leaves at 8 am tomorrow morning- so we have to leave hotel at 3 am!! The plane journey will take around 11 hours, but probably more knowing BA!!
