Hi everyone, Tish/Pat here. Well we have arrived in Thailand - are staying in a comfortable hostel for backpackers and have been to the ChackuChak weekend street market today - wonderful prices for clothes but they are all size 8/10!!!! Not one thing fitted me, Issy got a couple of items. Tomorrow we are hoping to see some of the sights of Bangkok and then afterwards go to Kanchanaburi (River Kwai boys) and the Tiger Sanctuary and then onto Cambodia (Angor Watt temples). After that then we head for the islands and hopefully a little rest from all the running around, and soak up the sun and sand. We are definitely on our own now AAARGH!!!!!! Said goodbye to our tour 'mates' in Hong Kong a few days ago, but met up with Issy's friend Waiman so she looked after us for a couple of days.
Hong Kong was very very different from the rest of China. Clean, no spitting, civilised and people smiled!!! We enjoyed HK but also the biggest difference of course was the COST. Whoa was it much more expensive than the rest of China - we seemed to be going to the ATM every day rather than every week!!!!
Bangkok is very hot, humid and we had a massive storm last night, but we are enjoying all the different experiences.
Sending my love to everyone and a big THANK YOU for all your messages and emails - they are great. Oh, by the way, KAREN - if I don't get to ring you for some reason HAPPY ???0TH BIRTHDAY - HAVE A GREAT DAY AND GET SPOILT!!!!
I am about finished here, but I think Issy wants to add her witty comments now, so I leave you to her.
Lots of love - Tish/Auntie Tisha/Pat
Hello everyone - Dr Issy here. Pat hasn't mentioned how ill she has been for quite a few days (it's OK - she's better now) and I have been tending to her every need !! (Well, nearly.) I think that the bug that started in China with one of the group just got passed round to everyone and we were all living in such close proximity that there were always at least 5 people in our team who were fighting to get to the loo first !! I've never seen so many people carrying toilet roll and racing each other with such grim determination, just to get to a filthy toilet. That's life over here !!
Anyway, we're fine and Pat has let you know what we're up to. We're having fun going from the massively humid outside temperature of about 35C to our air-conditioned room which seems FREEZING at 24C in comparison !! I've also been counting cockroaches for Pat, as she absolutely loves them (very much NOT).
I'm not sure that I've ever been so hot and sweaty and smelly in my life (some might disagree, of course). However, today I had a LOVELY foot massage and Pat had a back/neck/shoulder massage in the market we went to - they cost the vast sum of 3 pounds each !! We may have to have some more. It was wonderful.
Anyway, must go now as we haven't showered for days and are trying to decide whether to bother now or not. How much dirtier and smellier can we get, after all?
Lots and lots of love to EVERYONE - as Pat says, keep those messages coming. It's really great to sign on and hear from family and friends back home.
Dr Issy xxxxxx
