Hello everybody
The adventure has begun. We had a good journey to Beijing but needed to sleep for a couple of hours once we got here. It is VERY hot and VERY humid but we are safely installed in the YMCA hostel near the main railway station. It's actually quite a nice room.
We haven't ventured out very far yet as it is DEFINITELY a big culture shock - although very exciting. We managed to find somewhere to eat where we understood exactly what we were ordering - vegetables and rice for me, vegetables and noodles for Pat. It doesn't sound very inspiring, but actually it was very nice and there was plenty of it.
We're both still pretty jet-lagged, but are determined to stay awake now until "normal" bed time so that we get our body clocks readjusted ASAP.
Tomorrow evening we join our tour group for an introductory chat and a meal out. We haven't decided what we're going to do during the day yet. Whatever we do, it looks like we shall be hot and sweaty - AGAIN.
Oooh - just remembered. As we came off the airport shuttle train to pick up our bags, Team GB from the Paralympics were getting on the other side. All the Brits (well, Pat and me and a couple of others !!) gave them a good round of applause and thumbs up signs through the windows !!
So, more news later as things develop, but mostly we wanted to let you all know that we have arrived safely and are OK.
Lots of love to everyone.
Issy and Pat
