Queenstown!! Wow!! The drive here was beautiful (I feel like I'm repeating myself but every drive has been amazing so far!) we had fantastic views of the Remarkables and the lake and more importantly THE SUN CAME OUT!! We quickly ditched the car at the hotel and headed out to town. What Invercargill lacked in .. Well, everything ... QT more than made up for! It might surprise some of you but I'm not really one for extreme sports (I got scared sitting on a high bar stool - it was REALLY high!!) so I was a bit dubious as Queenstown has a reputation as the extreme sports capital but there was more than enough to keep me entertained and happy. Of course our first mission was to find me a spot in the sun where I could have a glass of wine and with more bars and restaurants than even I could get through in a couple of days we were spoiled for choice. After a couple of drinks and some food (and after purchasing my own hoody) we started the long, uphill walk back to our Juicy hotel. You can imagine my joy at discovering I had to climb a ladder to get into bed!! Yep, the bed was in the roof - I had to crouch to get into bed so you can guess the problems Paul had. It's interesting seeing your husband commando roll across the floor to get to his side of the bed! The following day we headed back down to town to look for some adventure for the day. The shot over jet had been suggested to us but Wardy doesn't roll like that. We took a million dollar cruise on the lake and it really was worth a million dollars! We were taken out around the lake stopping off for lunch at the Hilton. There were only 4 of us on the boat so it was like our own private little cruise and the captain, Wayne, was hilarious, it was a brilliant way to see Queenstown and the Remarkables and learn a bit more about the town. The water in certain parts of the lake is 99.9% pure! We also saw some fantastic houses - one had an 18 car garage, a tennis court, swimming pool and was set in an acre of land. Paul was in Grand Designs heaven!! Back on land, back in the sun and yep you guessed it back in the beer garden! Before heading off to our next stop we took a trip in the Skyline gondola to the very top of Queenstown. This is as extreme as I get! Not being a fan if heights this probably wasn't the best idea for me, I spent most of the time clinging on to the side of the wall but the views were spectacular, definitely a must do trip for anyone visiting the South Island. I have to say without any doubt QT has been my favourite place so far :)
