Our last couple days with Sarah, Tim, and the kids went by too fast. We were trying to squeeze every ounce of quality time with them that we could. This included taking the kids to a petting zoo (where we saw a goat get it's head caught in a fence....quite disturbing). Tim was able to get the afternoon off on our last day, and so we all set off to play mini-golf. Of course, because we are in Europe, beer was had by all (and our quality of play soon deteriorated). Linden was playing his first round of mini-golf, which he approached like a true hockey player...stick handling the ball into the hole. On one hole, however, he surprised us all by getting a perfect hole-in-one!! He was so proud!
We spent our final evening at Tim's mom, Veronica's home. She insisted on hosting a family dinner for us. Home-cooking was much appreciated after the few days of enjoying all of Holland's not too nutritious delights.
On our final morning, Sarah and the kids walked along with us and our suitcases to the train station. Sherri and Michael will be returning to visit them after our stay in Paris, but for Matt and I this was a real goodbye. We all tried really hard not to be sad, and I was doing pretty well until we were on the train and were waving goodbye to the kids. Linden started to cry and that was it, the tears came:) I'm not sure that Linden's tears were due to us leaving, but he made it okay for the rest of us to cry. I think he was probably disappointed that he didn't get to come on the train too, as we had done on all of our fun day trips. Sad:(
