We are safely resting at our motel in Joplin, Missouri. We had another rainy day, but again met nice people. We left Springfield in a drizzle. They were setting up the city square for a city anniversary party. We had a nice conversation with folk from the city offices.
Traveling west on 66 was pleasant but dreary. Some interesting ruins. In Carthage we found a Deli on the town square. Good food, but the conversation with the owner was better. Chris grew up in the area, worked for corporate, and gave it up to raise a family in a small town. He loves it here, and considers Joplin (51,000) too big.
On our way to Joplin we stopped at the G W Carver Birth Site National Park. Typically good national park, but the rain prevented us from walking the grounds. So we came to our hotel.
We had supper at a local (non-chain) restaurant. The waitress, a high school girl, recently sang in Carneige Hall with her school choir. She LOVED NYC and wants to go back. We enjoyed the conversation and the food.
We found a church for worship tomorrow. We keep all of you in our prayers.
Peace and love,
Hank and Marilyn
